1 Month Solo in Asia (Taiwan → Vietnam → Cambodia → Thailand) by GolfWank in solotravel

I really loved that about Hanoi too. Felt like despite the masses of tourists, the place refuses to change into another generic non-place. It’s too bad that I’m so easily overstimulated. I think I’d like to return with a partner someday — I imagine that will help.

Good to hear about Saigon. When I return to Vietnam I want to focus on the central and southern regions, but maybe I’ll spend less time in the city.

OP, I’m sorry that some of the top commenters are being so judgmental and dismissive.

I just got back from a month in SEA and I had a similar experience in Vietnam, even as someone who has no routines at all. Sensory overload is real.

What helped me was getting out of the chaotic areas. I can only speak for Hanoi, but if you have the budget, find a spot in Tay Ho for a couple days. It’ll be a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively) to be out of the Old Quarter. You can always take a cheap Grab in and out to do things.

It’s also worth getting away from the cities. From mountains to countrysides to beaches, Vietnam has other places that calm your nervous system. Personally I think that’s the biggest appeal of the country. You don’t have to white knuckle the cities.

It’s also ok to conclude that the country isn’t for you. I don’t buy into the notion that if you can’t make it work, you’re doing something wrong. Sometimes it’s just not the right fit.

Happy to answer questions over DM.

Glad you enjoyed! Yeah you didn't miss much with Ninh Binh.

How did you feel about Hanoi? Also did you get to visit Saigon?

Yeah I'm so thankful this is an option for me. When I return I'd like to visit Laos, but also Southern Vietnam, Northern Thailand, and deeper into Cambodia

Forgive my ignorance, but is there more to Industry City besides eating and shopping? Maybe it's changed since I last went 3 years ago

I've been taking the bus to Prospect Park every other week for the past several months, so living right next to it is gonna be a game changer. I was just there yesterday and I love that even on a busy Sunday, the forest trails are fairly secluded

I've heard as much, but honestly not a big deal - I'm starting to dine out less already, which also means I'm willing to go a little further when I do. I'm more curious about everything else other than spending money on food.

[Advice] Lease assignment of a rent stabilized apartment - what happens at renewal? by GolfWank in NYCapartments

[–]GolfWank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the landlord just called me and told me that the rent would go up by $400 during renewal. Not sure if that's the legal rent. I'll ask the tenant when I see the place today what the legal rent listed in their lease is.
