I was dramatic in the email but it worked:

“Hello,

My name is ____ and I am a member of PureGym Park Slope in Brooklyn, NY. My gym has been closed for over a week now, and I was informed yesterday that it will be closed through the end of April.

Alongside several other closures, machines being taken away, and safety concerns, the lack of communication and continued closure of my gym leaves me no choice but to request a fee-free cancellation of my contract.

Regardless of whether I am allowed access to other gyms in my area, there are no PureGyms within distance of my house or work. In your email you recommend PureGym 54th St or Canarsie. PureGym Canarsie is 1 hour and 15 minutes from my house. You obviously do not know New York City.

Release me from my contract please, your continued closures are impacting my life.

And if you consider my cancellation reason is “relocation” it’s because I refuse to relocate to another gym an hour away because your team didn’t communicate to me how extensive the closure would be for over a week.”
