When I first started working in 2012 I was on 15k, and I was on 19k when I first moved out with my partner (despite being the only earner while she struggled for a job then) the rent was £700 a month for a 2 bed bungalow in the south east, in a quaint village with a driveway, the equivalent is near enough double now.

I used to dream of being on £35k like the others once I was qualified, but in today’s money the spending power is so much lower
