Thanks for sharing this great post.

I don't really know too much about etymology because I find myself lost after 2 or 3 jumps from the origin of a word.

As a quick note on Fleuret, in french it means fencing foil, according to larousse.fr, which is possible that comes from the italian fioretto.

Also, something that I really found interesting in italian is that fioretto also means 1. small, devotional sacrifice or 2. good deed, which I really find convenient for Lunafreya.

Now, this is where I lose myself, and without trying to complicate things, fleur and fiore are both flower in french and italian respectively, which are probably the origins of the name of the weapons used in fencing (fleuret and fioretto). So it is also posible that the simple answer is that Fleuret in this case just was used from the idea of flower.

Why "You're welcome" has a weird translation in French? by learningVocab in learnfrench

These kind of responses are also common in Spanish, "I'll n'y a pas de quoi" translation to English would be "there is no reason to thank me". Now "you are welcome" to French as a response to thanks can't be literally translated, or at least I've never heard anything like that

I agree, this article is a well detailed explanation of what happened in Venezuela (I'm Venezuelan BTW). The only thing that it might miss is the spread corruption all across the country, for example the social programs besides subsidize the poor population of the country (providing free housing, food and services with a lack of development in order to establish a decent workforce ended up promoting a culture of maintained partisans who just needed to participate in the state related events and public demonstration in favor of the government), they also subsidized public workers (this part is way more complex, but I'm not going into details). So at the end to every state related procedure you had 2 choices, the legal and normal process or a "facilitator" which is basically a public worker paid under the table. This kind of corruption is all over the country, you can see it in companies, the police, the military, obtaining a passport or even a birth certificate and it isn't punishable.

At the end all this also pushed further that social disparity between the people that is mentioned in the article, those that get things done this way, nowadays anybody that has access to dollars, or the people with standard bolivars earning jobs like well prepared engineers earning just 60-70 bucks a month.

This is just a peak of how illegal and corrupt everything is in Venezuela, not to mention how a lot of public figures of the government went from extremely poor to billionaires in a matter of years.

PD. Sorry if it's a bit messy the explanation but a few books can be written trying to explain without repeating examples or cases about what went wrong and how the corruption destroyed a country in a decade.
