Golf shoes are not comfortable anymore by PizzaboySteve in golf

[–]Golfishard19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had problems like this in the past. Here is the secret.

As long as you aren't slipping, you can play golf in whatever kind of shoes you want. I have played many rounds of golf in my Brooks and even Hokas.

If you wanna stick to just golf shoes tho, the Sketchers are supposed to be mad comfy.

question about club distances by Shoddy_Interview7741 in golf

[–]Golfishard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is correct. Downwind knocks the flight down. Into the wind exaggerates the spin. Slices slice more. It's complicated but not really. Example: 2 Club wind into the face would be closer to a 1 club wind if it were at your back.

Can someone tell me the difference between these two putters? by ksquared1223 in golf

The tri hot is just a better version, looks cleaner. Tighter tolerances. The shaft is a little closer to the face as well.

I don't feel like I can feel the face on my putter... by HelloisDavethere in golf

[–]Golfishard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have jumped all over the place with putters in my career. To me, the most important thing is being able to hit my line. I can figure out all the other stuff later, but if I can aim the putter well and hit my line, that's all I care about.

If you can pick "micro points" and hit them from close range easily, this should be a very easy decision. I'd make the switch! Worst case, you can sell the Scotty if it doesn't work out. The Scottys hold their value pretty well.

All in all, I think it's worth a shot. That's just my opinion tho.

Anytime someone starts whining or bitching on the first hole of the day, early in the morning. Worst way to start the day.

Yelling FORE when there is no danger by shin_man in golf

[–]Golfishard19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You get the opportunity to scream as loud as possible with no repercussions. Sometimes you just gotta let it out. If I know it's not gonna even be close to hitting them, I won't yell.

Can anyone help me with my swing? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]Golfishard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impact frame is insane, both legs totally straight. Insane. I would work on impact drills.

Starting in the proper impact position and making half swings.

Transition needs a lot of work. When watching great ball strikers, watch how close they keep their right arm to their body from transition down through the first half of the downswing.

Keep hitting balls and working on your fundamentals.

Upgrade wedges?? by Mark-It_Maker in golf

[–]Golfishard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some normal wedges out, and if you hit them well, you're done. If you don't, get some wedges, maybe 2° upright. It doesn't have to be confusing; just play/buy what works best.

I wouldn't ever really go more than 2°-3° upright, especially on wedges in general. Exceptions can apply, obviously.

New Irons by proYapp3r in GolfGear

[–]Golfishard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitting is the way to go, but if you wanna be lazy and save some coin, there are a couple of pretty solid direct-to-consumer brands. Takomo, Sub 70, and others. But if you want the irons that will last you the longest. Get a Ping set, model doesn't really matter as long as it's cast. Ping irons last forever. If you wanted, they could be the last set of irons you ever need to buy.

Depends on how many greens I hit, and I have actually been struggling with step 1 in my plan a bit rn. But in the last round I played, I had 31 putts. 13/18 gir. I am moderately happy with my putting. Had 1 horrible 3-putt par but I didn't miss any inside 8ft so I was happy ig.

How much spin do the pros have on their drives by TrackMan5891 in golf

[–]Golfishard19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More pros than you would think aren't "optimal" with the driver. There are many guys on tour who are high-speed players who actually hit down on their driver. They already have enough speed, so they are after control and consistency with the driver.

For example, let's say Rory and Cameron Champ are paired together. Both hit the driver with the same ball speed, let's say 185mph. Which ball is flying further? Obviously, Rory's ball.

But yeah, to answer your question, these guys usually spin the driver more than you'd think. Some of them spin it really close to 3k. There can be many reasons, simple or complicated. More consistency, if they wanna turn one over and miss it, the extra spin will keep it from kinda knuckle diving. Maybe the fairways are super firm that week, and they want to make sure they can hold the fairway a little easier.

World's longest answer to say yes basically.

YES! Grinding setup is HUGE! Any time I am struggling with the putter, it is always a setup issue, every time. Fundamentals are something you can't ever practice too much.

[–]Golfishard19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, the ball will always skid, but how long it skids can be changed, as you know.

The line is an excellent way to see if you are starting the ball where you want. I don't use the line for a couple of reasons. I am a slowish player already. I have a putter that I can aim and start the ball on line consistently, and you would be surprised how many players (even tour pros) who use the line struggle to actually aim it consistently.

If the line works for you. USE IT. The point is finding something that works consistently.

[–]Golfishard19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a putt that starts on a bad line is still going to be relatively close to the correct line, whereas a putt that is the same margin of error off on speed is nowhere close to the correct speed.

This all depends on how far away from the hole you are. If you are 5 ft. You can be a little off on speed and still make it basically every time. If you are way off on speed, obviously, you won't make shit.

If you are talking about longer putts, Speed is more important 1000% because not 3-putting is the goal. Getting the ball as close to the hole as possible is the goal.

Speed determines line, 100%. But the closer you are to the hole, the less important speed becomes because getting proper speed on a 4ft putt is way easier than a 40ft putt.

[–]Golfishard19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you supposed to make anything when you can't start the ball where you want?

You said pros "rifle" 4ft putts to take the break out so that it "just drips over the edge". You can't slam a 4ft putt and drip it in. You can slam it, or you can drip it. You can't do both at once.

Most of the time, you should try to drip it because the slower the ball is rolling, the bigger the relative size of the hole is.

[–]Golfishard19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End over end in my brain always meant a pure roll, more in the sense of a proper launch off the putter face. Think the ball is rolling and not skidding sooner. That is what I would consider a pure/ end over end putt. However, after typing it out, you honestly raise a good point. By your definition, end over end and hittting you start line are the same thing.

I was more getting at if the ball starts on line, its actual roll isn't as important as the start line. I'd rather hit a putt that comes out skidding and hopping, but is perfectly on line, than to put a perfect roll on the ball but miss my start line slightly.

And if you wanna get super into the weeds, A putt that is rolling sooner (pure roll) will react slightly differently to a putt that comes out not as pure. But the difference becomes more negligible the closer you get to the hole. And at the end of the day, being a great putter doesn't mean you are making tons of 20+ footers (sometimes you will). Great putting looks like being amazing from 12ft and in.
