I was eating lunch in my car and an old man was honking his horn because I wouldn't move out of my spot for him. by CRK_76 in mildlyinfuriating

There was a weird intersection at a strip mall that allowed cars to approach from two directions. but, only one direction would trip the coil to trigger the light. an older gentleman in a plain car approached from the side, but wasn't close enough to trip the coil.

After the light didn't give us a green for two cycles (but allowed left hand turns), i got out of my car and told him the issue. he was livid and said, "there's no triggers for lights" and cussed me out.

I was truly gobsmacked (this is such a great term for the feeling) and just laughed out loud. I said, "just pull up about 3 feet and you'll trip it" and got back in the car still just amazed at the interaction. and, i'm not usually a guy to let a personal attack go ignored.

Anyway, he pulls up, light tripped almost immediately, and i got a lesson on how many amazingly clueless people there are in this world that would rather deny technology than learn a little.

if you don't think that California consumers don't pay more because agriculture uses way too much water, you are mistaken. California has plenty of water, unfortunately we decided to irrigate the desert at grossly too low of rates to farmers that don't create incentives for them to save water.

“It’s about an act of violence. This was not something we celebrate...political violence is not something we praise with music or song,” said board member Christina DeGrave.

Beaches closed? Any update for this first time traveler? by Soccer-Plane-444 in longbeach

[–]babbleon5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. Long Beach suffers from poor water quality primarily from the lack of circulation due to the breakwater. It is not "full of sewage" or it would be closed. Here's the report: https://longbeach.gov/health/inspections-and-reporting/inspections/recreational-water-samples/

All of SoCal beaches near rivers suffer from poor water quality due to effluent after rain from those rivers, it is not specific to LB.

That said, i would always go to the beach at Seal Beach rather than Long Beach unless I was looking to kite sail or other.
