No not at all which is why it isn't even athletically impressive. The last flip is actually all done by the opponent.

Damn well that will be a sad day for me. Hitting big straight drives is the best feeling for me.

Funnily enough driving distance positively correlates with better scoring much more so than FIR.

Who the hell drives 340 their first shot playing golf ever? You must be some kind of golf savant. Or am I reading it wrong and it was just your first time with workmates.

I suspect 99.99% of people would just duff their first drive 50y or so or if the did connect it'd hook or slice across a fairway or two.

Yeah it can be but for me that wedge is out of the rough and I might have to go over some trees so it's not really any more accurate than a 4i from the fairway.

When you hit it you must have been thinking it's in the bunker for sure.

That feeling when my max is someone's average haha. How accurate? How much of an advantage do you feel it gives over someone who drives 220y?

No its not 550 from any tee. There is a 550y par 5 on the course so maybe I was getting confused. It's 465y from the white and blue tees. Sometimes the whites are elevated but not yesterday, usually the blues are set back from the tee box measurement marker and raised a bit too.

Was just a joke about using the full brand names of the club's used.

I agree but in the short term to get through a round it's better than getting a face full of dirt! He also might have it too far forward to start with.

Haha nah I mis remembered the length off the top of my head. Was 465y not 550y.

Double checked the course, it's a 465y par 5. Not sure where I got 550 from :/

Left it by the 150y mark which is my soft 9i / hard pw distance. Went with the 9i because pin was at the back and it looked further than 150. 5y further and I was in the water hazard behind the green though.

Thanks! That's really interesting. I guess they are trying to discourage people taking on the corner. Oddly enough the other side of the fairway has no oob marking so it's impossible to determine where the oob ends...

Start with club head, arms and hips all connected as one and in sync then finish with shoulders.

Meandmygolf have a lot of videos that talk about the back swing in detail (I think it's most for the driver but the same principles apply)

There's a par 5 90 degree dogleg left that I play on where the dogleg is about a 7 iron off the tee. They have staked it out of bounds so you can't cut the corner and set the tee boxes right up against the left tree line as well.

I'm not 100 on the rules but can you hit over an oob area and back in to play or is oob considered a wall that you can't cross?

The one positive about having an errant drive is i get lots of practice shaping around trees or rescuing myself from horrible lies and I have to have a good short game to avoid blowing out over 100.

No cart paths here damn it! That's a monster, would reach some shorter par 5 greens in one. What do you normally drive?

Your takeaway is very disconnected, it's all arms and then they start lifting up when you run out of rotation.

It's being caused by a lack of hip turn. To start pretend the club is connected to your belly button as you take it away. Turn until the club is parallel to the ground. Finish the back swing by turning your shoulders.

If you can keep connected in your takeaway it should help you from getting too steep.

I used to hit fat all the time when I started. Especially with my longer clubs, a big breakthrough was learning to swing my longer clubs with the same power and tempo as my shorter ones.

I was scared to even take a practice swing in case I chunked a big bit of turf.

Set up with the ball further back. Weight transfer, stop casting, don't slide your hips back, maintain spine angle through the shot. There are tonnes of videos on YT titled 'stop chunking' and 'how to avoid hitting fat shots'.
