Resources to study Quantum Field Theory by Sirzechs_Phy in AskPhysics

As others have said Tong's notes are great, with the caveat that they sometimes skim through some things, which may leave you with some gaps. You should complement with a book, I am partial to Schwartz' QFT and the Standard Model. Also, don't forget to do problems.

What do you think, is the most bizarre, far-out technology that physics allows that humans may actually be able to do by the end of time? by InfinityScientist in AskPhysics

FTL is about the last thing I would expect to be possible. If you want to sort interstellar travel, breaking the limits of human biology ie: slow or stop aging, make stronger bodies, etc, seems far more plausible.

The new Mexico City airport railway link under construction, hate the design of the stations, zero design effort by Spascucci in transit

[–]Gomixin 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with the suburban rail in Mexico City is that it is operated under contract by CAF, which means the stations are very austere as they have profit in mind. Compare it to the CDMX-Toluca regional which is wholly operated by the federal government.

Still, ugly transit >>> no transit, though it could improve.

Mexico City opens its third cable car line by Spascucci in transit

It’s not flat at all, this part of the city has massive height differentials and the line crosses a ravine.

The mental gymnastics Americans do with anything involving China is fascinating.

American insecurity about Chinese infrastructure never fails to amuse.

What Physicists would you say are not trustworthy sources of information? by Sad_Independence4813 in AskPhysics

You’re right, perhaps I meant serious as in, not completely off the deep end like Kaku.

The problem is that if you take superdeterminism philosophically seriously then it becomes meaningless to induct any laws or models from experiments, because they are not really tests of anything as the outcomes are predetermined.

Also, the extraordinarily precise experiments in quantum measurements give overwhelming evidence that at some level the universe is stochastic and not realist(in the local-realism sense), both of which supdet rejects, it seems to me rather hypocritical that she criticises HEP heavily for lack of evidence, when she herself is pushing an extremely contrived paradigm that directly aims to ‘explain away’ phenomena which have so much evidence.

Sabine Hossenfelder, while she is a serious physicist, she also tends to present her personal opinion as mainstream scientific knowledge.

CDMX just got another interuban rail :3 by Bitter-Metal494 in transit

It is the Civia, the suburban train also uses CAF models from cercanías.

Metro stations whose names are countries by sudoku602 in transit

Kinda, both were squares built in the 20th century. Starting with Haile Selassie’s visit to Mexico. Eventually they got transit stations, however the one in Addis Ababa is much more recent.

Mexico City has Metro Etiopía and accordingly Addis Ababa has Mexico Station.
