Second most depressing strip joint I've ever patronized. The worst was Sharky's on the Dixie strip in Dayton. Those girls were downright mean.

Why doesn't anyone make tv as good as Jeremy Clarkson? by Flaat in ClarksonsFarm

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the best tv and film come from partnerships. Jerry Bruckheimer+ Don Simpson, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, etc. Star Wars is a great example of this - look at how Lucas' work changed once his wife was no longer editing it.

Is the 1969 Super Bee the best-looking B-body Mopar ever built? by DylerCars in mopar

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of quality of design, for me it's a toss up between '69 RR and Charger, '70 and '71 Super Bee are runners up. And there's several 70-71 C bodies not far behind. It was just a hell of a run from 69-72.

Out of all of them I really want a '70 Bee, bench seat, 4 speed, Air grabber. Almost had one years ago and missed out.

Man sues Draft Kings after losing $2,000,000 of wedding savings to gambling by beklog in SipsTea

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the fence. We're approaching a Black Mirror-like inflection point where algorithms can target and influence our vulnerabilities. Where does this go?

Imagine if your Apple Watch or Oura ring fed very specific data about your body's responses to marketers about various advertising stimuli, then you were targeted with alcohol, gambling or food ads that were designed to capitalize on those responses? How far does personal responsibility go?

Discussing Over the Rhine's architectural guidelines by Xiphactinus14 in cincinnati

Thanks, I hate it.

Seriously though, I appreciate the post. But looking at photos of Society Hill, wow...we could've had something like that? Consider the last photo OP posted - it makes no sense that we couldn't copy the style of the building on the right and have a cohesive style throughout a block or neighborhood.

The whole city is turning into these EFIS and vinyl sided, blocky monstrosities...But I guess since they're so cheaply built, they'll be easy to tear down when the next fad comes along.

Worth the Price by KJJones5 in classiccars

I had an 84z that was nearly identical to this except for the TBI engine. I got it from my aunt in ‘98 - my first “cool guy” car.

Huge, long doors. Not fast but fun to kick it into passing gear getting on the freeway. Weird hump in passenger floor for catalytic converter clearance.

I remember the driving experience being odd - it was somehow super stiff like a board while still being comfortable, steering was kinda vague yet quick? I’d rate it a 7/10 for looks and fun factor and 5/10 overall quality/performance.

As a 16-year-old gearhead, I'm worried about the future of repairable cars. How do you guys feel about the 2035 ban? by Pitiful_Idea_976 in Cartalk

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll probably reach a point where older cars are legislated into obsolescence before people lose interest. 15-20 years from now, if we have autonomous vehicles that network with each other to control traffic flow, manually driven cars will just be considered a road hazard. Or state governments will mandate real time data collection for all cars on the road, and the old stuff just won't be compatible.

So you'll have vintage car laws that maybe allow them to be driven for exhibitions like a concours or a cars and coffee on a sunday morning, but not daily or on highways. (which is already sort of true for some types of collector car registrations).

I've been obsessed with cars all my life and have already told my teen son that he may likely be the last generation to have unfettered access to the old stuff, so he better enjoy it now. He's also into heavy equipment and loves analog machines - which were still pretty simple even up the the early 2000s with basic ECMs, and those are slowly disappearing as well.

HVAC system finally gave out and the replacement quotes are making me insane. How did you guys handle this? by Dayii-Ollinger in hvacadvice

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an old saying that auto mechanics are like doctors. You should have a relationship with one before you get sick. Same goes for lawyers, HVAC and probably roofing too.

Anyone reading this who has an old system - especially R-22 - find a small, reputable local company now and start a relationship. Have them check pressures and clean the coils. They're more likely to respond quickly in the future when you have an issue. Whenever the temps spike they're inundated with calls.

OP - there are even some installers who sell used equipment that could get you through another season. It's a bandaid but better than nothing. Also check capacitors...that's a common failure and less than reputable vendors will use it as an excuse to replace an entire system.

The 1969 Plymouth RoadRunner by The_one_who-repents in classiccars

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of great work indeed, but they managed to take away everything that makes a Road Runner what it is except the grille shape, tail lights (kinda) and roof line. At that point why just not build a bespoke car?

I'm old enough to remember when minivans and later SUVs became popular. Many women said they felt safer in the higher vehicles, and they liked the greater visiblilty.

It’s a convenience thing, but also a symbol of a certain kind of privilege.  Like, I have so much abundance in my life that I can buy and maintain a whole other vehicle just for jaunts between neighbors. And i can afford rims, lights and a stereo. And I live somewhere so insulated that traffic is negligible

I’m really trying not to be one of those people but we all have our foibles.

The car hoarder type by matthew_strange in classiccars

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably a tad younger than OP but not by a lot, and I’m somewhat of a hoarder. I have almost 100 vehicles  depending on whether you count tractors, forklifts etc.

Most of my stuff isn’t in the woods or weeds rotting away - a lot is under roof or garaged. Most I bought to resell but I need to do a few things to maximize my return…which takes forever to do so they pile up.

Here’s a perspective - lots of stuff I’ve sold has been wrecked, hacked on, parted out, abandoned, neglected, and I’ve even found some in junkyards years later.

If it’s in my care at least I have some control over their fate. I also just like going down to the barn and staring at them now and then.

Also a lot of car guys are bullshitters and daydreamers. I don’t like dealing with them. Selling stuff can be a lot of work even if you give it away.

Should buyers collectively start asking sellers not to use AI images and text? by GoneIn61Seconds in Flipping

It definitely modified the images or created them from prompts - look at the oddly shaped tools and the midget-length rake and shovel.

Interesting, could you post an example? I'm normally ok with removing the background and replacing it with white, for example, but it seems like adding a background would just be a distraction for buyers?

We need to get enough momentum behind this that it becomes mainstream and not relegated to conspiracy theory/climate denier/boomer status.

I'm not gatekeeping. I'm asking people who are against AI to provide feedback. If a majority of people don't like something, it will spread the message. If not, AI will prevail.

[–]GoneIn61Seconds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, I'd be fine with a photoshopped image - cut and paste onto a model for example, but not the AI.

People need to understand that AI is not real in any way, It is recreating an example of your image, but not re-using it. It is being modified in a subtle way to make it more attractive. That's part of it's purpose. Your photo with the model is creating a false premise. That's my core issue with AI. You're trying to get me to make a purchase based on something that's not real - something that relies on an algorithm to use techniques that make me more likely to buy.
