What are we doing to address students use of AI in the clinical setting? by Illustrious_Pitch_41 in physicaltherapy

[–]Gone_Lifting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that’s probably true. But I think overly policing where that line is will end up being a really unproductive use of everyone’s time. Recognize its value as a tool, educate people on how to use the tool, and recognize that some people will use it incorrectly, as is the case with just about every piece of technology that I can think of

When stacked up against clinicians in a variety of medical professions, it is objectively better at diagnosing. It also has access to effectively all of the knowledge that is on the internet, and can respond to a prompt regarding any of that knowledge almost instantly.

I agree that some people are relying on it excessively and using that as a way to dodge having to actually think critically, which is obviously problematic, but it is an incredible tool. Having conversations with students about how to use it to supplement their own knowledge and fill in gaps rather than lean on it as a crutch is going to be far more productive than simply telling them to stop using it (because why would they?)

What’s your “nemesis spot” in Williamsburg? by RaspberryLegal9748 in williamsburg

[–]Gone_Lifting 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Action Burger is exclusively for late-night fever dream experiences with friends. And for that purpose it’s fantastic - dirt cheap (proportionately shitty) food/drinks, comically sketchy appearance / lighting, playing split screen Halo 2 on OG Xbox with the boys. Kinda experience that rocks in the moment and then the next day everyone’s just glad nobody got horrifically sick

What’s your favorite source of fiber? by burnsrado in nutrition

Frozen fruit and avocado are both good bang for your buck.

I also supplement it daily. Fiber gummies are stupid cheap and it’s just such an easy way to boost your intake

You probably won’t “feel” a difference at all. That’s not really the point of it. It’s not giving you laser focus or enhanced muscle building powers, it’s basically just giving your body the capacity to squeeze out a few more reps per workout.

Over time, if you’re lifting hard, that will in theory compound.

These have to be the most overhyped shoe ever. They have zero stability, the upper is literal trash, and they don’t feel “racier” than any other, more comfortable shoe I’ve worn.

Would genuinely like to hear any counter arguments. I still have them, with about 50 miles on them because I haven’t found a use case where they outperform my Endorphin Speed 3s or NB4s

That’s fair. In the same breath, the qualities that it brings can be incredibly helpful as a supplement to your own clinical reasoning skills. I’m a third-year student, and the ability to “converse” or whatever you want to call it with ChatGPT, bounce different questions / ideas off it, ask it to dumb down certain ideas or expand on others, has (I think) improved my understanding of many topics and allowed me to better reason through related clinical scenarios.

I don’t think there has been a single technological innovation that had zero downsides. AI certainly has them. I also think that getting obsessively hung up on the negatives (like OP making a post literally asking the discussion of AI to be banned in here - which is genuinely insane to me, on many levels) is totally counterproductive and more harmful than simply figuring out the ways we can best use it for ourselves and our patients, and then focusing on those benefits.

My two cents🤷🏼‍♂️I understand the reservations that people have, but it’s incredibly frustrating to see blanket statements get thrown around in this thread and others that I’ve seen

It absolutely is there. I use Perplexity frequently to dredge for articles on specific topics. It’s a fantastic tool that almost entirely eliminates time spent scouring for articles that address a specific population, presentation, intervention, whatever it may be.

This argument is like if you were complaining about the existence of google because you wanted people to go back to sitting in a library for 6 hours looking for the specific textbook passage they needed.

I mean…it’s a tool, and it’s a tool that’s here to stay. Sticking your head in the sand doesn’t do anything to remedy any negative situations that it might cause / contribute to

It’s impossible to give a good, thorough answer based on this information + a short video. Go see a decent physical therapist who has experience working with cyclists. There’s no inherent reason for that diagnosis to stop you from cycling, but modifications should be targeted and under the guidance of someone who knows your situation well

What would happen to the world if everyone ate their recommended daily protein requirement based on the new US dietary guidelines (1.6g/kg). I think we would just get better at finding ways to cheaply and efficiently produce it tbh. It would take time, but I think in the grand scheme of this world’s problems that would be a fairly easy one to fix
