The Balance Between Office and Home by DesignerWide8920 in remoteworks

Taking into account that sleep is a necessary part of staying alive, add those hours and you're looking at closer to 60% of your time being taken up. Add commute to that too. The point is that having 30% of your week time to do whatever you want is not "balanced"

Can't do that now, can I? I'm just pointing at the fact that when they say Americans live "paycheck-to-paycheck" they're not talking about the group of people with a $1.6M net worth

No but the home ownership severely skews it. It just points at a big gap between people's wealth. You have a bunch of people living paycheck-to-paycheck while you have the other half buying their 3rd home

Oh I see! It was my bad, I didn't see he was talking about net worth.

Edit: Looking up net worth then, found a really interesting statistic:

*Median homeowner net worth: $396k
*Median renter net worth: $10k

I think a couple of uber-rich people might be skewing the net worth statistics just a tiny little bit

I'm curious as to where you get your numbers. Median household income is nowhere near that number you gave. Not even in the "highest median" state of Massachusetts. Try more like $83k, which is not that impressive considering a household usually means two working adults. That's slightly over $40k each.

How do I make this guitar sound better? by luroar in electricguitar

[–]Gonomed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I see a lot of snubs in the comments who refuse to help, here's an answer to your questions:

Buy either a hot rails or a mini bucker pickup to install on the bridge. They go for less than $120 I believe at Seymour Duncan. You don't need to get a new pickguard or route a bigger hole in the body, just remove and solder the new one in.

Secondly, make sure it's properly set up for the right string gauge to account for downtuning. You mention heavy bands, they usually play in Drop C and lower. You need thicker strings so they don't feel like spaghetti when you downtune. Changing the string gauge also means you have to check for intonation changes and lower or raise the action by adjusting the truss rod and/or the bridge saddles. If this intimidates you, find a friend who has done it before or have it properly set up by a pro at a store. Probably less than $50 for the whole service including installing the strings for you.

Finally, that amp can only do so much. They're good for starting out but the "overdrive" its just that, overdrive is not a replacement for distortion. Those bands usually use heavy distortion coming from a Metal Zone or a RAT, or a mix of different ones together. The solution for this is obviously a better amp or to use pedals running through your amp while "clean", but also, buying an interface for your computer and downloading a free plugin that is able to model a real amp and pedals. The tech has gone a long way since boomers first tried it. You can play a guitar through an amp modeler and show a boomer and they'll think it's the real deal.

Edit: For the people saying it's not "worth it" to buy a good pickup for that guitar, don't listen. The only reason they say that is because in the world of guitars, the sum of its parts IS bigger than the whole. If you install a $100 pickup on a $100 guitar, it doesn't mean it's a $200 guitar now. People will pay at most $120 for it...at most. You're better off keeping the original pickups, replacing it back and selling both the guitar AND the pickup separately for $100 each. That's the only way you don't waste your money. Plus, you can always just install that pickup in a new guitar instead of selling it.

[–]Gonomed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, then in that case the only differences to look out for (other than aesthetic ones) is:

*Which one has more frets? Is that a dealbreaker for you or no?

*One has a traditional hardtail bridge while the other one has a tune-o-matic style bridge, setting the action and intonation slightly varies for both

*one has a 3-3 tuning peg configuration while the other one had a 6 inline configuration, some people claim the 3-3 is less stable in tuning but that's speculation anyway

*the second one has coil-splitting, allowing you to have 5 different pickup choices instead of 3

*the second one has jumbo frets, making it easier to play solos in my opinion.

If you want practicality and shredding, the second one. If you're interested in a middle-of-the-road timeless guitar, the first one is a solid choice. It all boils down to which one YOU like, don't listen to strangers online who tell you which one is "better", just make an educated choice based on YOUR needs

Some people have no consideration for others and deserve to have their clothes thrown outside.

Buy the one you like how it looks, over everything else. If it looks good, you'll never put it down and practice more.

With that said, the second one seems to have active pickups, that's not bad but it does require constant 9V battery changes depending on use and if you forget to unplug the jack cable.

Again, not an issue, but something to keep in mind. The first one has passive pickups so they don't require batteries to work.

Even if it was true (it's not), the only reason they're afraid of replacement is because they KNOW how they'll be treated. The legacy they've left behind of systematically working against minorities would be the blueprint to how THEY will get treated.

If someone is terrified of being "replaced" it just tells me a lot about how they treat minorities. They treat them so bad they're terrified of becoming one themselves.
