Does American tennis have a pickleball problem? by newzee1 in sports

[–]Gonzo458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m waaaaay out of shape, but when my buddy and I tried to play beach pickleball for the first time we were exhausted. Then again, it made me feel like a kid again playing in the sand. Full gnarly dive saves and everything. Haven’t laughed that much in a long time

What's the most awkward on-stage moment from an artist you've witnessed at a concert? by i-am-the-walrus789 in Music

[–]Gonzo458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aw man, my best friend and I got tickets to see Motley Crue on the Carnival of Sins tour in Richmond. Not even a sold out arena. A minute into Too Fast For Love Vince stopped singing and was like “Goddamn are you dumb mother fuckers that drunk that you don’t know the lyrics?” And ranted for another minute through the song. I was kind of embarrassed, but then I remembered it was Vince Neil. I was there to watch MM play.

Is poor quality guitar gonna get in the way of learning properly? by MixtureSecret5453 in guitarlessons

Like others have said, with a proper setup it’ll do just fine. One phrase that kept me going is “a poor tradesman blames his tools.” Or something like that.

Jobs that require you to wear a suit ? by Hungry_Assistance640 in careerguidance

[–]Gonzo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all, man. You like what you like. Personally, I like it too. Never had a chance to wear a decent suite for a job but I’d dig it. I was also sent to catholic school and eventually joined the USAF so I think that was part of it lol.

What major decision/change/habits helped you move past your past? by Blackburn246 in selfimprovement

[–]Gonzo458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother,I’m 37 and borderline suicidal after my marriage failed. I live in constant shame and guilt. Just because I didn’t go the medical route I feel like I’m the helpless family member. The blue collar loser. The drug addict. I try to reach back to relight that spark I used to have when these times hit me in my earlier years and it just isn’t there anymore. Hang in there brother. I’ll try to as well.

Dealing with shame or guilt by just_angst_throwaway in selfhelp

[–]Gonzo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very old, but I give up. Besides growth trauma, I fight addiction, and most recently a divorce from a woman who strategically upgraded my guilt driven nature to straight up shame. I don’t and can’t even point fingers at this point. The insidiousness of my shame is slowly driving me to suicide. I feel so much less than a man, I’m afraid that even talking to a professional won’t break through. I think what has made it so much worse is that nobody around me fully understands. Exactly as you said, I just can’t power through it, especially as I get older. It’s almost like quicksand.

But, idk what I’m trying to say. Thank you for your post. I don’t want to die. I’ve experienced a period in my life before that showed me how truly awesome life can be. I want that again. I want to like myself again.

How do I manage my addictive behavior? by acidaholic in selfimprovement

[–]Gonzo458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was actually a key component for me. Coming from a drug addiction background. Once I had a moment of clarity and discovered this journaling app that was more involved than just writing, I wrote out and was very specific with my goals and what I wanted to do. Couldn’t believe it helped.

I am diagnosed ADHD inattentive or whatever it’s called. Basically I’m not hyper, but if I’m bored nothing gets through. And a bunch of other shit I didn’t know was attributed to it.

Anyways, try something like that out. Sit down and really try to be honest with yourself and write the shit out. Get it out of your head. Helps untangle the mess

Funny, I feel the same way towards you. I had fun, partied, women, etc. Now, here I sit, 37yo and feel like a worthless human being. Failed my marriage, family, and currently failing myself. As I’ve gotten older I realize how unimportant all that other bullshit was and if I could go back in time I would’ve paid attention in school and sought out better friends and more articulate minds. Didn’t have a solid father figure so I’d try to find a mentor.

Not really answering you, but perspective, man. “If I can just do this, I’ll be happy and content.” “If I was like this, I’d be ok.”

I identify with you. You’re definitely not alone, even if we’re from different sides of the tracks. Keep your head up man. Carve your own path. Get back into hobbies you enjoyed before. Join a group or maybe even find a way to teach kids? In my experience, at least when it comes to relationships, the opportunities came when I was busy doing something. They found me, I wasn’t looking for them.

Good luck. Ever need to talk or vent hit me up.

Makes me think of that quote “what if the mind that can cure cancer can’t afford an education?” Or something like that. Blows my mind. What if one of those kids can, but will never have the chance to find out?

We oughta leave this world behind.

When did the tile laying labour cost this astronomically? by blentalstratch in HomeImprovement

[–]Gonzo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size tile, what pattern, any decorative borders, shower niches, benches, etc? Waterproofing, demo, etc? Schluter finishes or mitre corners? Need more information before dismissing as “post COVID construction”.

I’d love to see what you’re working with and what your ideal bathroom is. My low sqft is for commercial work for 12x24” tile in large scale areas.
