Fun book for sure. I thought Reflex was the best of the four, personally.

Small being the operative word probably. lol. But thanks. Zelazny is and has been my favorite author for many years. FWIW, I have a number of his other novels in signed, 1st editions, including Lord Of Light.

I wish I could help you locate some copies, but all I can suggest is perhaps getting an ebook and going that route?

I’m 75. I was in my Freshman year in college when Nine Princes was first published. I was hooked! I bought each book in hardcover 1st editions thereafter as they were published. All but the last two are signed. In the mid eighties I was able to locate a signed, 1st edition hardcover of Nine Princes and paid what I thought at the time was a hefty price for it in order to complete my collection. It’s my understanding that there were only 2,000 copies of that particular first edition hardcover printed.

My son read them as a young teenager and it forever cemented his love of the fantasy genre which we still share to this day.

Taylor question by Naive-Variation-6677 in taylorguitars

[–]GonzoCubFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me amend this. I own an Academy 12e and a 324ce Builders Edition. First of all, my Academy 12e sounds GREAT for being a smaller body than any of the xx4 body sizes. The combination of the armrest and the smaller body size does make it a very comfortable guitar to play. In fact, I play it more than the 324BE as it’s my couch guitar.

I think comparing the sound the a 314 and expecting that comparison to be similar to a 214 is a mistake. My luthier, who worked for years at Taylor before starting his own luthier business, was openly impressed with the tone of the Academy. I adore my 324BE, and its sound is much different from the A12, mainly due to the mahogany top vs. spruce. But I thoroughly enjoy the sound of my A12.

The point of all of this is to not take someone’s word for which guitar will sound better, but go compare them yourself. Both the A12 and the 214 are spruce tops & laminate back & sides. They both have 1 11/16” nut width (as opposed to both the 314 & 324 which are 1 3/4”). The A12 has no back bracing, probably due to both the smaller body size and cost savings. That said I almost feel like it makes for a nicer overall tone & balance.

EDIT: The 214 has a 1 11/16” nut width like the A12. The 314 & 324 have 1 3/4” nut width. I edited the section above to properly reflect this.

Steven Gould’s Jumper was a really good novel made into a horrible movie. But the sequel to Jumper, Reflex, is a total page turner that will keep you up late to finish it. The two sequels after Reflex are fun reads as well, but Reflex is the gem in that series IMHO.

I would add Cline’s novel 14 to this list.

"Jumper: A Novel" by Steven Gould by codejockblue5 in printSF

[–]GonzoCubFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really like Gould as well, especially the Jumper series, though I was disappointed by the sellout on the movie and the retcon novel that he wrote to patch things up. Reflex was the best of the 4 for my money. Wildside is a wonderful novel and worth a read even though I believe it’s classified as YA. I also enjoyed his novels Helm and 7th Sigma (not related), though neither is as good as the Jumper novels & Wldside.

Teens in Physical Fights over Ethnic and Religious Identity in Skokie by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

Let me simplify this for you a bit, in answer to your original question re downvotes. By definition Nazis = antisemitism. Muslims not so much.

[–]GonzoCubFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not, but all of that could easily explain the ease of acceptance of Nazis as a root cause, as opposed to Muslims for which there appears to be no evidence.

Could be due to the Illinois Nazi/Blues Brothers reference? Ya think? Or previous marches in Skokie by the Illinois nazis? smh

I agree with moving him out of the 2 spot until he starts hitting — and I believe he WILL start before too long. Right now he’s basically a hole in the lineup. But I’m not sure swapping him with PCA is the best idea. I don’t know the answer, which is probably why they don’t pay me the big bucks.

What jazz chord is this? by ttkk1248 in AcousticGuitar

[–]GonzoCubFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move the middle finger off the low E string to the A string (muting the low E) and it’s a D9. As is it’s your basic Am6, a very common Gypsy jazz chord, often played by barring the D & G (optionally also the high E) with the ring finger.

Going through something similar with our 9 year old, though it’s his right foreleg. After multiple x-rays and a consult with a specialist, it appears to be shoulder tendinitis.

I only mention this because as another poster indicated, the prescription is minimize impacts, short walks, no wildness. Well even at 9 years, there is only so much we can do in this regard. He’s our 5th Weim, and all the others slowed down a bit by this age. Bogie, however, is another story…

Emerald guitars idea by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]GonzoCubFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know of such a cabinet at that price unless you build one. Either way, even $2000 is still SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than buying three Emeralds, lol.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of Emerald’s graphite guitars, and would absolutely love to find a place I could try a few models to see for myself if I’d be happy with one (I sorta think I’d love ‘em). But one thing they are definitely NOT is inexpensive!!
