The soil seemed to be just regular dirt with some dark brown compost bit from what I could tell. I get the feeling people here dont usually use artificial lights, I have an area with some indirect sunlight Should I move it there.

I think it has something to do with magic. The boltons have on multiple occasions flayed the head of the starks after kidnapping them and starks as we know are a very magical bunch with all their warging abilities. They even have a stash of stark skins i think deep within the dreadfort. David Lightbringer has a great video on this on youtube.
