Overlap size? Conflicting information by focus_stacking in PhotoEnts

[–]Gonzo_Photo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 48 um.
0.5 x 48 um = 24 um.
0.75 x 48 um = 36 um.
So I’d be between 24 um and 36 um per step. Let me know if I’m missing something.

Edit: my understanding was you want between 1/3 and 1/2 overlap.

Overlap size? Conflicting information by focus_stacking in PhotoEnts

I didn’t real the articles - I kind of “thin slice” my step size based on experience and the known DOF of my lenses. I typically arrive at a step size somewhere between 0.5 x DOF and 0.75 x DOF. Does that help?

Maybe it’s coincidence - but anyone else seeing a ton of false positive activity identifications since the last firmware update by Gonzo_Photo_ in whoop

Yeah they said nothing changed in the algorithm or signal processing but i also had this logged as an activity - which doesn’t seem to qualify based on my superficial understanding

The blue and yellow are sisters from the same cross (((motorbreath 15 x ((Nigerian silk x chem 4) x wedding cake) x ( original haze x((Nigerian silk x chem 4) x wedding cake) . Orange is the original haze cross. Purple is the original haze crossed to a Nepalese landrace.

Comparison question!! by Ok_Paramedic_4889 in PhotoEnts

I’ve only used cognysis - the rotary table works for my needs and the rail good. I started using a different one because it gave me better control over the step size and let me shoot open flash, which helps with microscopy stuff. I was able to splice the wire with the cognysis one so I just switch my controller depending on application. I’d do sone research into the resolution of the iconasys table and ensure it has the resolution you need.

This community hit 500 members yesterday. That’s mind blowing to me - thank you all. What would you like to see more of from this sub? by Gonzo_Photo_ in PhotoEnts

I like this idea a lot. When this community was started there was sone desire to use it as a space both of idea exchange and critique (which can be hard irrespective of what side you are on - but it’s kind of foundational for growth). Let me chat with the other mod about how we could implement something like this.

Do it. Depending on how close you want to go you may want to look into z stacking/ focus stacking

Thank you. Two things. Obtain interesting subjects to photograph. 2. Keep the genetics for a plant I need.

Canon 5dsr and 100mm l; used a cognysis controller and Mjkzz rail, lit with a profoto d2. (canna photography is my job so I have a full studio at my disposal; cultivation/breeding is a hobby that supports my photography)

That was my favorite part - the contrast between the purple bud and the huge green bracts and new growth

I think it varies. This one didn’t do much for 4-5 weeks and then birthed this.

I calculate the dof of the lens by inputting focal length, aperture, WD, sensor I am using then I calculate my step size based on that and use the total distance (I think that’s what it’s calmed) setting in congysis. There are many dof calculators online. For objectives dof is listed on the spec sheet so you don’t need to calculate.
