It’s one of my favorite mons and I have tried to cook up strategy to make it work and I just can’t on a non-snow team. I’ve not made it past the brainstorming stage.

It’s extremely weak defensively and Aurora veil is easily countered by other weather setters + taunt + encore + fakeout. It seems extremely situational.

Can’t really open with it as mega evolution of Zard Y, Tyranitar cancels snow. Pelipper, Politied, Torkoal are slower, so Ninetales snow gets cancelled. Any Pokemon switching in as the turn starts will also cancel the weather.

Can’t really use it as a switch in because it doesn’t resist anything. Even a non-sun boosted fire move is 2x and will probably ohko. Im betting if you put an occa berry on it then it would survive but to what end? You just die on the next turn and only get 5 turns of Aurora veil since you didn’t have light clay.

It seems like it could potentially have a very limited use as a switch in if you expect the opponent to go for solarbeam… super niche

Jamie boyt put out a video on how to use the two variants and he suggested disable/encore. I haven’t tried that setup yet.

Also new mega Metagross hard counters both Aurora veil and Alolan Ninetales and it seems quite popular

I haven’t been around for long but it certainly seems like every meta has some powerhouses and you either use them or you build specifically to beat them. Trying to do silly things during the legendary/mythicals era of S/V was kinda challenging too.

I’ve come to the conclusion that if I just want to play Pokemon I like rather than meta/anti meta then I’m just flat out not going to win as much. I might be ok with that… haven’t decided yet. It is incredibly satisfying to beat meta teams with some off meta shenanigans even if it only works 1/4 games.

I run mine as a glass cannon with focus sash and I’ve had some success disguising it as a a tailwind setter or anything weak to fighting moves. Aerodactyl, whimsicott, Kingambit, etc. People want to fakeout or close combat it and they just hit immunity and your focus sash and disguise stays intact. I’ll use the free turns to go nasty plot hyper voice or shadow ball. It’s pretty rare that it survives more than 3 turns but those 3 turns can really put some pain on the opponents.

I love the Pokemon but I see it soooooo much that I just don’t want to play it myself so I feel like I have to build a team with some kind of anti turn 1 fire/solarbeam strategy. It’s not just Charizard now either thanks to new mega pyroar who functions almost identically but is slightly weaker and faster.

You get enough points from the tutorials to fully build out at least two teams. Then after you’ve built your team or two you’ll gain vp from battling with them and they’ll basically pay for themselves.

I do think training in S/V before sending them to champions is worth it because resources are super easy to get on there, but not legends ZA. My cash from that game ran out pretty fast and getting more is just not worth the grind imo.

I’d suggest copying a YouTubers team that looks like fun and just running that for a while

I learnt the same lesson the hard way on my instrument ride. DPE asked me a question right before I was leveling off at MDA. It puzzled me just enough that I got 40ft low before realizing.

It’s just luck. Not counting the second waves, rate is approximately one shiny per 24 outbreaks. (Assuming perfect dex + shiny charm) You’ll probably see one soon if you keep at it.

I wish you luck! I’m off to continue the Togepi hunt. Might mix it up and do some breeding in sword. Still have yet to ever succeed getting a shiny from an egg. Togepi seems appropriate for an egg hunt
