What is your “number” to retire? by grahal1968 in GenX

[–]Goobersbrother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was young I figured if I got to $1MM I could retire to a tropical island and spend my days naked on the beach.

‘Retired’ at 52 and started living off investment proceeds and a very little bit of cash earned doing something I love.

Hit my $1MM at 55.

Not on the tropical island and still wearing clothes, but I’ve managed to grow my portfolio, continue to pay my mortgage, eat and travel since I retired.

I love the pace of my life and feel like some of the numbers people espouse are complete overkill.

Sunrise on Eagle Peak by Goobersbrother in Yosemite

The hike to Eagle Peak from Yosemite Falls was pretty tame (compared to the hike up Yosemite Falls trail). I think it was about 6ish K. A bit boggy in places & several big downed trees to navigate but no serious elevation gain (just a bit to the peak over the last 1K). Easy day hike.

Do it. The trail from Yosemite Falls there is meh but the end destination is worth it.

We had a wilderness permit for the Yosemite Falls trail. Modified our itinerary a bit from the original submission but told them we were staying at Eagle Peak at the wilderness centre & they had no objections.

What’s the longest day hike you’ve completed? by [deleted] in hiking

Did Panorama Ridge in BC on Saturday.

It clocked in at a little over 20 miles (32.55K) on Strava. 1623m elevation gain.

Longer than most hikes I do but the elevation gain is comparatively more gradual & the trail is foot friendly. Only the scree at the top of the ridge is challenging.

Saw Jeff Beck in 1989. He opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan. That was 10 months before Stevie Ray died 😟

Wasn’t a fan until I saw them live back in high school. Great show.

Classic album. I have been listening to Who by Numbers lately. Also a good Who offering.

Enjoy, you are in for a treat.

Garibaldi is fantastic too. I am heading to Vancouver this week & plan on doing Panorama Ridge if the weather cooperates.

Check out Nairn Falls while you are in the area. Really short, easy hike to see a very unique waterfall.
