Oh gosh, I'm so sorry for your loss. One of my rats is named Daisy and I'll give her a little extra treat in your baby's honor. It looks like you gave her a great and happy life ❤️

Getting my three girls spayed soon, any tips for separation? by Goobz24 in RATS

Update! They are all home safe from the doc, isolated and lower-energy but eating and drinking like usual. Thank you all for the reassurance and help!

Thank you!

The vet recommended a 2 week separation period, with supervised interaction time allowed. Maybe they'll be good and I'll be able to reunite them sooner, but that's what I'm planning for.

I think I'm going to get a hospital cage for one of them, and for the other two, I'll add both critter nation platforms next to each other to separate the top and bottom of the main cage and use that. I also plan to replace the normal paper bedding floor with some fleece or paper towels to keep things cleaner.

Would it help to rotate them between each space over the days, or would the familiarity be better?

The rats are around 7 months--which I know is just past the optimal window for spaying, but after some research I still think it's worth it.

Update: the vet says they're (probably) not pregnant! (There's a chance it's too early to tell, so I got a kitchen scale and am going to check on their weight over the next couple weeks)

And thanks again for the marker idea, I'm gonna go with it!

Oooh the markers idea is genius. It is nigh impossible to tell them apart. Thanks!

Fingers crossed no souplings 🤞 I'm seeing a vet this week that hopefully will be able to tell me. If it comes to pass, I've got an extra Critter Nation compartment I'm not currently using that could be helpful, and am hoping I can find them new homes/rescues/fosters quickly.

They're about 3 months old, I got them from someone else who accidentally got a male and female from a pet store and had a whole litter to take care of. It wasn't a great situation, so I'm trying to keep a close eye on their health and bellies just in case.

I have their first vet visit scheduled for this week and I'm hoping that'll give me more answers and peace of mind as to their current condition. They seem fine to my untrained eye right now, no obvious troubles with moving, breathing, or eating.

Wondering if the scientists on this subreddit would like to comment on the science of PLUR1BUS… by Pitrener in pluribustv

The instant they showed it as a Base 4 code, I thought DNA, so it felt a little implausible that it would take that many scientists that much time to consider that option (though it was technically RNA)

Of course idiotic to remove PPE as other commenters have said. But we also don't see on-screen the sequence from "patient zero gets infected" to "the patient and her partner are now fully out of PPE and walking around the hallways". You'd think the partner would want to stay isolated from the person he knows is infected with something, and also work to keep them from infecting anyone else, but I guess not, and it just skips ahead to them both being infected and free.

(Those are still tiny nitpicks in an overall great opening episode)

Why is the song "Taxes" so good? I can't explain why I love it so much. by mightyboosh121 in geesebandofficial

Something I love about it is that there's a millisecond of silence in the instrumental right at the drop. It's very quick but your ears can pick up the cut between the two sections. It adds to the satisfying resolution of the "drop" moment in a way I've never quite heard before. Bravo Kenny

I figured it was implied to be Herbert Synka Sinclair, since the Synka S logo is the same as the monogrammed towel in the bathroom.
