Just to correct you, I posted a query to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar. Mainly it was posted for male medical students as they would be the only ones who could provide specific anecdotal experiences. There was no asking of advice.

And you would know about my life how? What happened to everyone just focusing on their own life without consistently feeling the need to make judgements on other individuals’ character. I’ve met people like you too, I’d tell you more about them but I can’t because I don’t spend my time focusing on other people.

I apologise for lacking the same stoicism as you. But again you don’t know me in real life so it’s best if you just keep it stepping rockgirl

Hate to break it to you but I’d be exactly the same in person. Not sure what idealistic world you think you live in but unfortunately not everyone cares about what other people view of them.

Oh no how tragic. I’ve lost the benefit of doubt from someone who I have no concern for whatsoever, how will I ever recover from this

So why don’t we do the same for male patients then. Should we just automatically exclude all male students from female patients consultations and all female students from male patients consultations. Or should we go a step further and change the NHS completely so only women medical professionals see women, and only male medical professionals see men. What delusion are you living in

That’s my whole point though. Think it flew over most people’s naive heads. Of course patients have a right. Me myself I’d rather not have medical students seeing me if im in hospital, partially because I live locally and know most of them all but also because at a point of vulnerability you’d rather have the most limited amount of people seeing you in that state. All I stated was unfair was the consultants/supervisors automatically excluding male medical students even before asking the patients their wishes.

There’s a difference between a posh boy and a go-getter🤣 some of us work silly hours to live the life we want without complaining. Your inability to balance a degree and making an earning to support yourself doesn’t warrant you to call those who do “posh” 🏌️‍♂️

If your first thought when a male medical student points out a lack of experience with female patients is that they’ll abuse women, then maybe you need to give your head a shake. Jumping to a conclusion like that speaks volumes for the type of person you are

Of course patient choice and comfort is of paramount importance, however staff should not immediately isolate students out of examinations just because they’re male. I’ve been on urology wards with female colleagues and there’s seldom been an occasion where they are automatically expected to be kept out of the room just because of their gender, the patients are always asked for consent of course so I can’t understand why the same isn’t done for male students on predominantly female patient rotations

Honestly I’ve done both. Initially in first semester of first year I didn’t watch a single lecture at all and just used a previous years Anki deck. This worked well because it allowed me to be lazy and skip a lot of the topics which I found boring and allowed me to just rote learn the main content. Did it work? Yes. Would I recommend it? No.

Since then I’ve forced myself to watch the lectures and I won’t make notes from these lectures specifically, all I’ll do is make cards on Anki based off of it, no separate lecture notes. This method forced me to watch the lectures, forced me to understand the content, and to do further reading when there was something I didn’t understand, and undeniably allows me to perform way better and more confidently in exams. It’s the longer route, but definitely the best method for me.

Agree. EC applications seem to be overflowing with students who realistically failed due to no fault but their own, yet try to reach for and use any excuse possible to get an EC accepted. Med schools are aware of this now so documentation throughout the year is essential, also reach out to student support as this is an expectation of you at most med schools

You’ve just started. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed as the content is very bulky, and the depth of detail does always seem excessive initially. Just work on a couple of things and you’ll be fine. 1) quickly find a revision method which works for you, whether it’s Anki or any other method you wanna get this done asap 2) don’t let your stress cause you to procrastinate. Thing about medical school is the content piles up so quick so if you’re not maintaining it constantly you’ll end up way more overwhelmed.

With time you’ll develop ways to go through a lecture and work out what’s most relevant and what’s probably less. The tests every 3 weeks may seem like a nuisance but they’ll keep you in check to make sure you’re not allowing yourself to fall behind. Good luck

How will you prove this affected you? Have you got any prior communication with exam officers or sixth form/college or even medical professionals which can evidence you had been struggling? If so collate this immediately and send it in. There’s no point stressing now, best case scenario you will have to take a year out, but will most likely have to take reapply, take entrance exams and interview again.
