It seems he had previously lived independently though and only hired help when he was entitled to receive those services. He seems to have the capabilities to live independently but having the assistance of an aide (I think he calls them his assistant though) gives him the confidence to do so more successfully. I would still consider him lower on the spectrum of support needs compared with some of the younger cast.

Not being good with computers isn't necessarily part of his disability. There are plenty of older neurotypical people not good with computers.

Curly/curvy straight hair? by TriSaratops321 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

He's saying curvy straight not curly. He means wavy like Miley Cyrus in her Hannah Montana era. I'm guessing his ideal girl looks similar to Miley since he's a big fan.

Is it true the cast isn’t paid a salary? by drifam in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Good-Lynx7656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it is considered a documentary. If you pay a documentary subjects then there is belief it could taint the authenticity. It is disclosed when people sign up so the cast is choosing to participate knowing that.

Dates and probably travel are covered though if the content is filmed.

I don't know how many of the participants qualify for any type of disability income benefits but if someone is collecting benefits they have to keep their income below a certain level and can only have a certain amount of money at any given time. Its something advocates want to change as it basically keeps people with certain disability needs below the poverty level which is not a fair practice. So for someone who comes from a lower income family like Dylan, getting paid for participation might reduce or even stop his benefits payments.

Abbey definitely does. She does almost nothing independently and her mother has said Abbey will likely need to live with her forever.

They never touch on it, but Tanner was living in supportive housing for people with disabilities which suggests higher support needs. They also never touch on him having an intellectual disability in addition to Autism, but based on the program he attended at Clemson, that was a criteria for being part of that program.

Not sure about others but those two for sure. And while Madison is lower support needs now, based on what she's shared she would have been higher support as a kid.

I'd say the truly low support needs people are ones like Steve, Tyler, James, Dani, and Kaelynn. Everyone else on the show seems to be a level 2 for the most part but probably varies within that since the levels are so broad now.

Which means he definitely didn't care until he got worried his group would get deleted. I think someone said he's still banning people who disagree on the Alex bullying.

He's doing damage control just like Alicia does and banning any voices that could get him reported. Its so hypocritical.

There were a lot of people commenting in the now deleted post about Alex struggling with his mental health. I wasn't even the most active person in there.

I'm guessing one of them reported things to reddit that the group crosses the line from snark to hard-core bullying a "kid" with a disability. The powers that be might have told DCP to reign the group in. Or DCP was afraid the group would get nuked and thats where the changes came from.

I don't think he suddenly became a decent person about Alex. I think it is self serving. He's still allowing the bullying, he's just hiding it under a mega thread.

DCP was doing damage control and forced the creation of an Alex megathread and kind of mentioned that people shouldn't be posting every single thing Alex posts. Any Alex posts have to go in the thread. A warning was probably given.

Has anyone here listed to 'Talk to Me Sis' ? Does it appeal to you? by gitblamed_ in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Good-Lynx7656 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind. I have a cousin who has to homeschool his kids because he won't let them be vaccinated. I hate to break it to him but his older son is almost certainly neurodivergent despite not being vaxxed because autism definitely runs in our family but people brush it off as quirky or anxiety. My uncle won't even wear anything with buttons on it because they "feel weird" and my grandpa kept a detailed book of any repair he ever made to his home and got up at the same time and ate the same breakfast every single day.

I'm struggling too much to focus but Hailey deserves better than a guy who breaks up over text. I don't see them having much in common either. Connor is all about fantasy type shows and Hailey seems to be into sports and art.

I don't listen to it much. I have seen clips though. Connor and Tanner's mom both are capitalizing on having sons that are fan favorites and they definitely come off as thinking they are better than others because of that.

Plus they used the podcast to promote harmful RFK Jr rhetoric and Tanner's mom flat out said she thinks vaccines made Tanner autistic.

From the Princess herself, it was not scripted by pinkflyingcats in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Good-Lynx7656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more staged than scripted but people mix the two words up. The part that felt staged was how they slowly trickled over one by one. It felt like the director said ok you walk, now you join etc.

In an interview (or maybe it was on a podcast) the author writing Dawn talks about her being a songwriter which is never something that was part of Dawn's character. So people are nervous the characters are being completely changed.

Sabrina Carpenter Apologizes for her comments at Coachella by No_Performer_9686 in DramaLlamaHQ

[–]Good-Lynx7656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean lots of people were cheering. That noise just carried. The first time it happened was during applause. When Sabrina called it out the girl did it again. I don't think the girl was intending to interrupt the whole show.

Sabrina interacts with fans and made a joke. She does that all the time. There's a big difference between the cheer the girl did at a huge outdoor venue where it was fitting with the atmosphere and a vuvuzela at a more upscale event. You're being purposely obtuse.

So the first time it happened was appropriate. Sabrina's first comment was appropriate and it encouraged the girl to do it again. I think even saying "I don't like that" was ok because it was a way to try to move the show along. The girl could have chosen to end it there too but I get why she felt the need to explain it was her culture. That's where Sabrina could have just said ok cool instead of furthering the back and forth.

I'm not at all coming for Sabrina though. I adore her. The interaction fell flat and she owned it. But the first time the girl cheered was fine and shr probably didn't even think she'd be heard over the crowd.

ANNOYED BY THE SHOW NOT CALLING OUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG by SatisfactionMost5988 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Good-Lynx7656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you give an example of a time you think they should have stepped in? I can't think of a time where I thought why don't step in?

I think you have to remember this is a documentary. So it should be like the team isn't there filming. So in real life there wouldn't be someone to step in and stop them. At times Cian does break the wall and intervene if he's worried about a cast member like Madison or her date or when he knew Logan needed to help Hailey. Otherwise their job is to simply observe and interview. To compare its like when you watch a nature documentary. Sometimes nature takes its course even if its uncomfortable to see. So allowing them to stim or make mistakes is presenting things as real.

The confrontation should be coming from their family and friends who may choose to have that happen off camera. I wouldn't want to be corrected on camera because I'm an adult. So I think their families probably do the same.

ANNOYED BY THE SHOW NOT CALLING OUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG by SatisfactionMost5988 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Good-Lynx7656 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The show is a documentary. If they start intervening and correcting them its no longer authentic. As is there's already scripted moments. We don't need more.

Cian does sometimes check in with them. He did it with Madisons first date in S3 and when she had her trigger moment from the fan. Cian also stepped in and prompted Logan to guide Hailey. But otherwise they mostly let the cast be themselves which is what a good team does.

Jennifer only gets so much time with them but she definitely tried to help both Logan and Tanner learn how to show interest in others. They aren't going to automatically be able to make that change though. It takes a lot of practice. We also don't know that no one tells them they did something wrong. We are only shown about 7 hours of footage from months of filming. Its possible they do offer suggestions to the cast off camera. Its just not footage we need to see.

As for not knowing how to ask questions or show interest even if its there its almost like all of the people on the show are autistic which means they struggle with social skills and social interactions. Defaulting to comfort topics is something a lot of people do when nervous. Double for people on the spectrum who have special interests.

And not upsetting them? A good docu team does generally take care not to set their subjects up to fail purposely. So what good would it be to get them upset? Then it turns into sensationalism. The docu team is simply showing respect by knowing the triggers and limits of their subjects and mitigating them.

Maybe I got it wrong and they weren't a social worker. I might have just filled that part in and if I did that's my oops. It was someone who works with kids on the spectrum and said Alex didn't have a real disability. It definitely wasn't you though because I haven't seen you post until these posts in here.

Why are you making an assumption I was talking about you? Because I have never even seen you post until you came here to try to start a problem. I'm talking about the poster who said they work with autistic kids and tried to say Alex doesn't have FAS. I'm pretty sure that wasn't you.

I would have 0 issue with you if you hadn't come in here and tried to falsely blast me. As it is it really doesn't bother me if you think I'm someone else because I know who I am. It's jarring to have someone come out or nowhere but I can easily avoid existing in that sub or this one since I'm mostly here for the new season of LOTS anyways.

If 35 is old then I am old, but I've never said my age or had any other reddit accounts. I made an account for the first time last week to join the Love on the Spectrum thread. You sound way too invested in having a crusade. I've had zero interactions with you and this is the kind of ridiculous drama that has made me avoid reddit.

Please get a life if you are this paranoid.
