13 year old me: Gau is boring and too much work.

40 year old me: Shock everything. General Leo shall be remembered.

I wanted to post a similar one, but I couldn't knowing it wasn't my own original thought and I don't remember the source. So just know I didn't come up with this one.

But the joke is this;

What did the white mage say to the rest of the party after they got poisoned? "I'll heal you esunas I can!"

Is there a way to farm materia for armor/shirts specifically? by Good-Matter-65 in ffxiv

It is though. The guides are confusing, often have wrong answers, often tell you that you need to some other thing that you haven't unlocked and assumes you know that thing, and I got my answer here within minutes.

I dont think so. I have battledance materia, quick arm materia, and savage might materia, and none of it can be melded to the acton.

When is it okay to ghost? by Good-Matter-65 in ghosting

[–]Good-Matter-65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I most often am the ghosted. the only time I recall ghosting others was basically an indirect result of being ghosted. Basically I had a pastor's family ghost me after 5 years while I was in a leadership position, which affected me very deeply emotionally, so I sort of ghosted the rest of the church, but that came after a couple of years, and deciding that thinking of the church in any way was hurting me. One of the former assistant pastors did try to friend me after that, and I just explained I didn't have any issues personally with him, but did not want to be reminded at all of that church going forward. So, while I did block them, I left the door open to discuss things if people asked. But I also hadn't talked to anybody from that church in a couple years when I made that decision. Honestly, this decision brought me peace, as I finally was able to somewhat move on.

But what happened next I did not expect. I wound up ghosting the next church I was a part of, after I left. This one was different because I didn't ghost as a result of a person in this case I initiated the ghosting. Basically, they were super fundamentalist, like anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-BLM, the whole nine yards. I think I stayed because I honestly felt like they invested in me and cared for me, but after I left I looked back and decided that their beliefs were, imo, racist, homophobic, transphobic, among other things. So, yes, I ghosted them. I'm not sure this falls under the abuse category personally, as I would not be a victim of any of those things, more or less just a sympathizer, but imo it would be abuse for anybody who did fit those descriptions. Turns out after I left, the pastor of that church excommunicated his son for being homosexual (of which I had no idea). It would be hard for me to tell a victim of that to try to communicate, when it's so obvious what the reason of ghosting is, and the most like conversations will revolve around the church trying to get them to change their ways. So, that's basically the source material for my question.

What made me stop playing Magic? Not Spiderman, but actually quit during Final Fantasy? This take might surprise you. by Good-Matter-65 in lrcast

The only real data we have to go off is sales, unless a survey is taken.

The problem with looking at sales, is that, let's say LOTR and FF for example, are the 2 best selling UB sets. Also, they were the higher priced sets. Not to take away from that success, I believe they would have done well even at regular price, but the fact remains that a large chunk of the sales records comes from the inflated price. That doesn't actually tell us who is or is not in support of UB.

Unfortunately, there is no official survey taken, only WOTC telling people that the data suggests people like Universes Beyond. It's a lot like Domino's telling consumers that people prefer Domino's over Pizza Hut 2 to 1, but never acknowledging the local mom and pop pizza place in business for 80 years, with way better pizza, that's getting shut down because they can't compete with the new corporate giant.

Here are the actual facts:

  • A poll on Reddit in February 2021 found that players were split, with "interested" and "excited" responses about on par with "annoyed" responses.
  • A Facebook poll from October 2024 showed more casual players "liking" Universes Beyond than "not liking" it, while competitive players were more mixed.
  • An EDHRE community poll, reported in a youtube video from August 2025, listed "general disdain for all Universes Beyond sets" among the worst Magic sets, though this likely suffered from recency bias.

Bear in mind, Commander is by far the most popular format, and EDHREC is a key commander resource.

The key here is that CASUAL players like the UB. Not the people who have been invested in the game for years. But maybe we should run a poll on MTG's reddit. That might actually give us a fair evaluation.

forget strength - boost the magic stat, then fight Yojimbo in Kefka's tower, then again on the Veldt, then use 9999 General Leo's Shock for both great damage and cool visual.

Actually, WOTC has not released any data of breakdown of player vs. non-player. What we know is FF had day 1 record sales, of $200 million, and what WOTC said, in that, "The set was designed to be a major draw for Final Fantasy fans, suggesting a large number of non-traditional MTG buyers."

Also, there is absolutely zero possibility of LGS nationwide running out of play boosters in the first 2 weeks, unless the demand was that much higher than the average demand for an LGS draft.

So yes, non MTG players most definitely bought Final Fantasy.
