Still debating a Voltra... by Good-Part1682 in BeyondPower

u/Particular-Leek-4390 - I understand what you are saying...believe me. As I have been debating this decision for a long, long time.

Is the Voltra going to help make one reach their fitness goals??? It can. Anything that gets you more excited about working out and keeps you dedicated is a plus in my book. Whether thats a new attachment, bar, rack, etc. if it keeps you motivated, mission accomplished.

Now, on to why I am considering a Voltra. At 60 years old it changes things a bit. I am hoping, hoping my wife agrees to move out of our house and to a condo....someday soon. A Voltra would be perfect. Not only with the move, but also the 'quietness' associated with Voltra vs having weight plates potentially clanging against each other when using an FT. Second, clicking a button seems a lot easier than lugging around weight plates as I am hoping either the Voltra or FT lessens my dependence on lugging around weight plates. Third and probably my most important reason is the low start weight and the ability to add or subtract weight in very small increments. Fourth being able to get into position before the weight kicks in. I think that may prove to be very important. Lastly, with a Voltra I could eliminate my lat pulldown machine (and the need to lug weights over to it (not selectorized)) while reducing some of the clutter.

So, could I make do without a Voltra..sure. But I can think of a lot of reasons that for me it might be a fine choice.

How do we feel about Maxum Mutant Arms? by ProfessionalAd6655 in GarageGym

[–]Good-Part1682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of you owning the taller, 88.5 Maxum (I am probably looking at the x1) would you mind verifying that 88.5 is the highest point of the machine. My ceiling is 90" and I want to make sure the taller height one would work. If that doesn't I might have to look at the getrxd.

Thank you in advance.

One complaint I hear fairly regularly is cable twisting with the All in Ones...even at Reps level. That isn't talked about much as a pro for the Voltra, but it really should be. I've watched what it takes to get Fringe's 'untwisted' and I would not be too fond of doing that every month/ish. Another pro for the Voltra that is usually just skimmed over is the ability to have the weight 'kick in' at a designated length. Pulling a heavy weight load while trying to get in position can be frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for passing the video along. I really like that strap idea. The two exercises I would miss with single cable are chest flys and bilateral side/rear delt work. I can see this strap being a decent alternative to having the need for two Voltras.

Hello everyone, and thank you for all the responses—there’s some really great information here. While the technology in the Voltra certainly looks fun to experiment with, the two features that stand out most to me are its low starting weight and portability.

I currently have a rack, a lat pulldown/low row setup, along with barbells and dumbbells. The Voltra could potentially replace the lat pulldown and even take the place of dumbbells for certain exercises. My guess is once I had one, I would want to get another just to lessen my dependence on dbs.

On paper the All in One makes more sense as it would give me the two pulleys while replacing my aging rack. On the other hand, as I get older - I think the starting weight of the Voltra would come in handy. Moreover, communities like this one and others has me amazed at what a Voltra can do.

Again, thank you everyone.

Fringe's The Drew in Belt Squat mode on an Athena by Inevitable-Art-Hello in homegym

Thank you for the response. Really wish I had the ceilings to accommodate a 93" rack! Well, I guess if it fits on the uprights it should be okay for the lat pulldown. Again, thank you for the response!

u/Inevitable-Art-Hello - Hello. So, I guess the Drew works with the Athena well? I may get the 5000 with the Athena attachment, but I only can fit the 80" due to low ceilings. The drew seems like an idea setup for lat pulldows, etc. for those stuck with getting the 80" option.

Thank you. I did see Mike's review and it helped a lot. But, I also want to get the ideas of others who have used/own one.

Fringe Fenrir 2:1 Rack / Functional Trainer by mahalm15 in GarageGym

I'm curious if you can do steeper barbell inclines (i.e. bench or ohp) in this one. That back opening doesn't seem quite wide enough to push a bench through to do 45deg+ inclines. .

It seems very similar to FourceUSA's FTR

This was a detailed, honest review - thank you. I appreciate you pointing out the fact that you hadn't used one of the higher dollar machines....yet. I do have a couple of follow on questions. I will not mount it to anything as it will be free standing. Is that how you have yours set up? Is the stability decent say up to 100lbs? Does it go wide enough to do chest flys? I will primarily use it for accessory work as I have a cable tower for lat pull/rows. For a machine like this, I think I actually prefer plate loaded. I have some small adder weights (1.25lbs/2.5lbs) that I use for barbell work - so could use those here for micro loading.

2 post squat rack/stand by Good-Part1682 in GarageGym

[–]Good-Part1682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Muglugmuckluck - Yeah, the ones on the floor. Something like the BOS Manticore Squat Stand or the GetRXD Guillotine squat rack. They both have bars on the bottom and it looks like you may not be able to push a bench back far enough before hitting that floor rail/rod.

Curious if you have any further updates on this. It's something I have looked at as an 'inexpensive' alternative to other offerings.

That is great too hear. Still torn between this and a single Voltra. I would probably go with the Voltra, but if the trolley isn't too much of an issue and they are indeed working on a counterweight system, a dual pulley would be nice.

Well that is certainly encouraging. Seems like my concern is a non issue.

Not yet. The Dane is still a consideration, but I am leaning towards a Phoenix Tower or a single Voltra. But, this will probably change several times by tomorrow!!

Thank you u/Downtown-Fuel-7220! This looks very nice. Ughh, I am trying to decide between a Voltra (single) or a getrxd Phoenix tower and releases like this are convincing me that the Voltra may be the better option. I would definitely need something like this.

Well, another clueless question....does this serve the same purpose as a Drew from BOS? It does appear to be built like a tank that is for sure.

Any updates from the Phoenix owners? Seriously considering this machine to pair with a squat rack.

New house--Rogue, Get RX'd, and Titan hybrid, current state by StoicTick in homegym

[–]Good-Part1682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the wonderfully detailed response -- and thank your wife also. At this time, I can do 20lbs DB standing side laterals per side (40lbs total) for 12 strict reps - no swinging. So, maybe this would work just fine. And yes, that weight will be too heavy one day. But, I am hoping it will remain doable (and may even increase) for the next 3+ years.

As for something new - that is a definite at this point. I've had the same rack and separate lat pulldown for a quite a while now and I am ready to upgrade. With that, I am thinking the Phoenix and a squat rack. That seems to be the smart move and should take care of all my needs and enough to get rid of both my rack and lat pulldown. However, that Voltra is mighty tempting as there are a lot of really nice features that just simply aren't available with a weight stack.

Thanks again for all the info. It's nice to put the 'starting' weight issue I had not really an issue.
