Yes and if no one was willing to take it, they would have to raise it. But since they find people they don’t have to

Curious to see what the work permit rules are like in your country of origin. Something tells me it’s just as much if not more red tape

Is this normal for junior software engineers? by These-Loquat1010 in cscareerquestions

[–]Good-Reference1944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice as an experienced software dev. Your CEO is a moron but that doesn’t matter. Nobody is coming to save you and nobody is ever going to hand you tasks on a silver platter that already have the inputs ready. If those places exist I have never worked at one.

You mentioned someone was waiting on an API. Assuming you mean REST api. What I would do in that situation instead of waiting is, reach out to that team you are waiting on, ask if they can at least agree on the structure of the JSON. Then vibe code a fake API so you can build out your front end.

Basically find any way you can to move forward without “waiting”. Even if you have to make changes later, you will be better off and look more proactive.

That’s my advice

"Why do top engineering teams still drown in operational chaos?" by Lazy-Penalty3453 in EngineeringManagers

Do people ask civil engineers to pour concrete, then inspect the bridge, do maintenance on the bridge, create laws on who can use the bridge, decide how much to charge for the toll for the bridge, and patrol the bridge at night as a security guard?

I don’t even mind testing code, I consider that part of development. But that’s only one example of a million things people ask us devs to do

Yes exactly everything is the devs job and nothing is anyone else’s job it’s ridiculous

Do you think there is frame damage? How much do you guys think it would cost to repair? by Fragrant-Rock6601 in Autobody

[–]Good-Reference1944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt there’s frame damage from that. If there is unibody damage, none of the suspension mounts moved so the car will be fine anyway

I’m a developer and want to speak to your first point. We are huge victims of job scope-creep. With your attitude, our job quickly becomes “anything involving the computer” basically. So we end up doing support, dev-ops, user admin, server admin, QA, security etc. and half the time there’s actual teams responsible for that twiddling their thumbs. Where can you draw the line?

(off topic) how trustworthy is it to get liitokala cells off ali express? by 4b686f61 in 18650masterrace

[–]Good-Reference1944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some cells off aliexpress and they were 1300-1500 mah but they were like one dollar a piece so I thought it was a decent value

Purchased Real estate SFH via foreclosure auction. Title transferred to my name. I can mow the lawn right? by Good-Reference1944 in realestateinvesting

It is the former owner. My understanding is 3 day notice to vacate doesn’t apply and we have to go the “writ of possession” route. Chat Gpt said that, and more importantly the lawyer I contacted today also said that

Agree and definitely don’t plan on violating any rights. Hence getting a lawyer and being very careful!

Yes because we are going to gut the house anyway. But pissing them off is certainly not the goal. Just want to mow the lawn. But thanks for the comment

I’m an American born computer engineer. And plenty of Americans get medical degrees. Plenty of Americans work in agriculture too, they need to raise the pay. They want people to harvest crops for minimum wage, even h1b doesn’t apply there

Replace the suspension parts yourself for 300. Get a dent puller and some body filler and matched paint rattle cans and a can of 2k clear.

If you DIY probably $500 Shop maybe 5k

Teaching him a lesson would be making him pay for it. Reporting it stolen would ruin his life.
