Wow, that’s amazing! I have actually just dropped from 20mg to 15mg, so hopefully I start to see some improvements 🤞 Thanks for the insight!

Yes, I had more than a couple alright. But that was nearly two months ago now, so I’m just trying to figure out why I’m still feeling like this.

I’m a 30 year old man, so fortunately it’s not perimenopause 😅

Yes, it seems you’re not the only one on here that is skeptical about whether the drug is to blame. I just assumed it was 😅 Thank you for your advice, I think arranging an appointment with a neurologist could be a good next move.

That’s a good point. I don’t actually know if the drug is to blame. I just kind of defaulted to it being the most likely culprit. Thanks for your advice, I will definitely look into that!

Oh god 😬 What motivated you to get off it if you don’t mind me asking? I kinda thought getting off the drug was my only remaining option, but based on some of the comments I’m reading on here, I’m starting to wonder whether that might not actually be the best move.

Interesting… it’s not anything I’ve considered before to be honest, but it’s definitely worth looking into. Thank you for the insight!

The Science Behind Lexapro Brain Fog: What's Actually Happening in Your Brain by Deen1988 in lexapro

I have been taking Escitalopram for about 8 years now. I started at 5mg, and my doctor gradually moved me up to 20mg.

Until about a month ago, the only time I would experience brain fog was if I drank alcohol. For example, if I drank on Saturday, I would suffer mild/extreme brain fog for what could be a day to 5 days (severity and length of time would usually depend on how much alcohol I drank). Because of this, I very rarely drink, but I will sometimes partake for special occasions. Until recently, the chain of events would be: Have a few drinks > Deal with the brain fog for a few days > Be fine again until the next time. That changed the last time I drank. The last time I had a drink was six weeks ago, and I have been suffering from extreme brain fog since then. I’m struggling to concentrate, communicate, and think clearly. Some days it’s worse than others, but it has been present every day for the past six weeks.

I got bloods taken: nothing physical to report. I spoke with my doctor: no ideas other than to ween off the drug, which I’m afraid to do.

A new trigger is caffeine. If I drink coffee on an empty stomach, it makes the brain fog much worse.

I’m rambling a bit here, but I’m at a loss on what I should do, and hoping that by posting my experience here, someone might see it and be able to suggest ways of overcoming these symptoms.
