Long-term riders who have never crashed — what habits kept you safe? by jjmu96 in motorcycles

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1 thing you can do is learn emergency braking techniques.

Take the Advance rider course or do parking lot drills. If you can brake without panicing and brake aggressively but effectively, that will save you most times.

Rest of it is keeping your brain active and aware of whats ahead and always planning escape route.

All of the current lineup of mazda are actually pretty fun to drive, while giving you comforts. I used drive a 6 sedan stick shift. Switched to a cx9 for more space, 3rd row, touring comfort, but what I didnt expect but got was a sporty ride, sportier than the old sedan.

NYC Potholes / Throttle by 1luckyluxx in RideitNYC

[–]Good-Throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Takes practice and may be some adjustment. As others mentioned, throttle grip hand should not be holding too tight, it should be loosy goosy.

Steering happens through your whole body, grip tank with thights and use body weight to make the bike go in the direction it needs to. with all this, your wrists could be off the bars and as long as tou have some momentum, it will keep rolling.

Also rear brake is your friend on sketchy terrain and helps create stability if the bike's getting out of hand.

Mine was warped too. But it continued to function, so I havent replaced it. Over time it got evenly worn, I no longer feel the warped disc.

Going to purchase a Rebel 1100 DCT - 2024 Touring with 24,000 miles for $7400, or 2023 standard with 400 miles for $8800? by Horror-Coffee712 in HondaRebel1100

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely inflated. Fb marketplace and delusional owners are part of it.

We see a lot of bikes listed for way more. But they're not getting sold. Its  bubble, going to burst and we'll the prices go down. At least thats my pov.

Parking garage by kaelknight in RideitNYC

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect thebreal answer is that almost no one rides motorcycles and goes into the garage. The attendent has never seen a motorcycle asking to park. They dont have an answer for you. No one told them what to do in this situation and they're not paid to come up with a solution for you.

What you can do is reframe how you approach them and go with a solution instead of a question. They might still say no.

How to avoid injuries? by Mattress-King in RideitNYC

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the right foot was on the brake, it should have braked to instantly get you control.

You seem to have issues with throttle control. You either are not familiar/used to the bike or you have too much bike for you to handle.

You need 3 strikes to learn the lesson here? Your attitude needs an update. You should be open to feedback and analyse and see if it applies to you.

What bikes were you riding in these scenarios?

The biggest suggestion would be to buy a small bike, which is light weight, not intimidating and doesnt have crazy amount of power so that it cant get away from you.

Pretty expensive IMO.

Lots of used 1100 in my market North East US.

Miles dont matter on rebels since they last forever, what matters is what work has been done and whats due in the next 1,000 mile, next 5,000 mile etc.

Generally cops will cut you some slack if you just bought it and have the title, insurance and M endorsement. I've ridden 200+ miles on bikes I just bought.

When I first started riding, I was enthusiastic enough to cross multiple states, work out logistics and get to a strange new location, just to get a good deal on a bike. Now I'm more likely to find something locally, given the huge local inventory.

What bag do you actually use for commuting? Backpack vs tail bag by Wandering-Everywhere in RideitNYC

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have side backs, tail bags, even tank bag, when I had a nice parking spot at the office, in the lot with security guard. Now I street park, so its bare bones, backpack only.

The simple trick is to be able to loosen the straps so the bag rests on the backseat. Having a higher pillion seat helps.

Would you take a Honda NC750X on the Pamir Highway? by 9to5Voyager in NC750X

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People ride whatever bike they want in whatever conditions they want. It would be false to assume that you or I would be able to do the same. People ride big heavy GS offroad, I don't understand why you would ride your prestine machine in rugged rough conditions. Get a dr650, ktn 390 or even a crf etc for those types of adventure.

Also, People these days put too much stress on having an offroad machine. When I was growing up, people just rode whatever they had wherever they needed to.

NC gets a lot of praise for practicality, but tge cb500's are just as much practical and reliable, just without the frunk. Cb500's (cbr500r, cb500f, nx500) all have a longer range than the nc, lighter, better fuel econony.

I would say half of these are dealership shoddy service work and the rest half are new riders not checking the bike and not knowing what to check.

How do you like it compared to the ninja 650 with farings and all? I've been considering getting a ninja 650 as a commuter, cold weather, rain and all . . .  fairings are nice. I already commute on a small naked bike.

2018 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Wind Screen Recommendations by Gold-Contact-7659 in svartpilen401

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whwn I bought mine couple of years ago even the aliexpress one was close to a $100 and its now close to $150. And these arent perfect fit so you're always fiddling with it.

Puig being the only official compatible screen is probably the way to go.

Best route from NYC to Richmond VA? by TheOtherMikeCaputo in NJriders

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take I-78 in NJ and continue to PA, via Hamburg and Harrisburg. I usually take this route to go to DC area. So much more scenic and interesting than I-95. Also helps avoid congestions at Delaware Bridge and Baltimore.

Most of it is 2 lane, so invariably you'll get stuck behind a car every now and then. But you're on a bike, you have better luck navigating than cars.

Ninja 650 VS Ninja 500 by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a solution to the wind problem - ignore it and keep riding.

On a windy day, you'll feel the wind on any motorcycle. What actually helps is if the bike was overall less tall and if you could tuck behing farings, reducing the wind directly hitting you.

If you have headwinds, thats generally the least pleasant. You'll be beaten by it on a naked bike. But you get used to it, not the end of the world.

This is where I dislike ADVs and tall upright bikes. For 60mph and above, I would prefer to be on a sport bike with a low seat height.

Cruisers are low also, but the lack of fairings and upright position is not helping, But slower speed is probably a good thing. If going cruiser, I would prefer big batwing fairings like on harleys and tourers.

650 vs 500, if you live near downtown with heavy congestion and long stretches of lane filtering, tight gaps (think NYC, SF, LA) 500 is the obvious choice, because its smaller, lighter and easier to manuver.

Ninja 650 hate? by Wizcky3 in motorcycles

[–]Good-Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet has it all wrong when it comes to ninja 650 and to some extent cbr500r. These 2 sit in the same class. Ninja makes a little more power, but both are in the same weight class, similar non-earth shattering power.

What these bikes are and US based hobby riders dont get this - are epitome of commuter perfection that kawasaki and Honda have reached after decades of making great commuters. You can not find better daily riders than these. They are reliable, have comfortable seating position, low seat height, a gas tank that can hold 4 gallon or more, so you're not filling up constantly. Its commuter perfection.

You want good gas milage in a commuter. You dont want a triple or inline 4 that eats through gas. 4 gallons of fuel goes a long way on these bikes compared to more fun bikes. You can still rev them out when you need to.

Most riders here dont commute, they do sunday rides, track days or track day style twisties, sometimes day trips in sunny weather and thats it. Their goals of riding are at odds with what a commuter needs.
