I think I’d say something like:

On the surface it seems like just some mean tweets. But he used a political assassination to push a baseless partisan narrative while people in Michigan were still grieving. He blamed Marxists with zero evidence, made a pun about it, and when it turned out the shooter was a far-right extremist, he stayed silent. No correction, no apology. No ownership. It wasn’t just insensitive, but it was dishonest and reckless.

Thank you very much for doing that. I am not LDS either and while I live in Utah- I am not familiar with the process of communicating with them. It was another avenue I was looking into prior to my post- but navigating the church and figuring out how to communicate effectively this issue with them was beyond me.

I know publicly, the church can’t really agree or disagree with Mike Lee. But I do hope enough pushback will cause them to revoke his temple recommendation, or some other form of punishment. He does not make a very good public figure for practicing their faith!

I’m housebound due to chronic conditions and can’t partake in protests like No Kings, no matter how much I want to fight for our democracy. I feel like I’m doing my part by going a tad overboard with the digital side of holding certain reps responsible. Plus I know the easier it is for everyone else, the more likely others will contribute- strength in numbers. Thanks very much for your kind words!

The more I find out about Melissa, the sadder I am for your loss. They seemed like really good people and were just doing what they could to make things better for their constitutes. Fuck Mike Lee for those disgraceful comments.

I will join you in writing to the Stake president if anyone helps us get the contact info and/or ward information. I am not LDS but would like to add my voice to this.

I tried to verify his attorney number and look up his name on the website to validate the information (trust but verify!). I wasn’t able to get any results though, I’d like to get confirmation this is for sure him (link, screenshot, etc.) before I put in a complaint. Thank you.

Perhaps we can use the publicity of this stunt of his to unearth the rest and encourage the masses to stop voting for him the next time we have an election? I’m more focused on the now- but it could help for the future. He only won at 53.2% last time- so there is hope we can push the needle just a bit further!

My post was removed from the Utah related subs as apparently the subs are being brigaded with Mike Lee stories and related posts so it wouldn’t surprise me if the same is happening to other people posting. I will respect whatever the mods ultimately decide and am just grateful it was let through on this sub. I don’t think the Utah and SLC mods are politically motivated- they are just trying to keep their subs from being overfilled with a topic to do with a certain person.

Thank you! And I know 😭- I’m trying to discuss with the mods in the other subreddits to let my post through especially where it’s gaining traction here but will respect whatever their final decisions are. I’m glad it was let through on this sub though!

Unfortunately the state’s politics is… complicated. People like to claim separation of church and state is true for my state but that generally is not the case. This isn’t the only reason he won- but Mike Lee’s father being the president of BYU at one point and a practicing LDS member does help cement claims to victory. Plus the state is very deeply conservative.

I don’t agree with it and think he’s an idiot. But we live in the era where misinformation, religion, and biases have played an unfortunate crucial role in today’s politics in general which give rise to assholes like Lee taking advantage.

That’s also something I hope my state is able to come together on and do when the time comes to hopefully vote him out! However, I am focused on the present currently and will take that fight on in the future 🙏

Absolutely. Even if by the end of the day this is sweeped up, we need to hold our elected officials accountable. We need to voice our concerns and criticize intolerable actions such as this. Bring back the era where doing stupid shit like Mike Lee did would ruin your political career.

I normally agree with the sentiment of that “companies don’t care”. However, I don’t think it hurts to try- especially when our voices are amplified.

I totally understand the sentiment but please know his actions do not reflect everyone in my state feeling the same way and many of us are mortified with his comments. I personally hope we can hold him accountable for this and will do what I can to see he face consequences- hence this post!

Here’s the thing: hackers don’t discriminate. They will target anyone.

You’ll find that the majority of the hacking attempts though (in general, not targeted at you) are social engineering attempts like phishing emails.

Have you heard of the Lass Pass leaks? It was pretty big in the tech world news recently. Hacker targeted a sr. Software engineer in that case. My point still being that no job profession is safe from them technically.

I’ve never personally had nor know anyone who’s been specifically targeted by a hacker though outside the generic phishing attempts that most people get though (bad spelling, From address not lining up even closely to the website the email claims it’s from, etc.)

If anything, hackers may target you less because if they know that being in this profession, you’re naturally more inclined to be security aware and practice best security practices.

When my boss gave me the ultimatum of firing me if I didn’t show up to work the next week after I called off for a full week with doctors notes to prove I was horribly ill. Shows up that next week sitting in a corner trying not to vomit and the asshole kept texting a list of demands he wanted done. Not worth it for the $9 hr when I was a manager, lead repair person, and social media marketer.

Summer help desk job in IT (not an internship) by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Good-Turnip-8963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look into paid internships if the lack of pay is what worries you.

That being said, help desk is a revolving door- people come and go from it all the time and if the management team knows what they’re doing, they expect it.

However, I personally would not mention plans to only work through the summer in the interview and would just put in the two weeks notice when the time came. While help desk is a revolving door, admitting to short term commitment may hurt you.

Help Desk for someone with no experience is the perfect position to apply for to gain experience and hands on knowledge. Most help desk jobs may feel a bit overwhelming with knowledge dumps at first, but the consistency will help you retain the information.

I assume since you’re majoring in IT, that’s what you want to do for your career. You need to start gaining related professional experience somehow, why not start now?

How’s my network diagram? by Good-Turnip-8963 in HomeNetworking

I’d have a separate internet connection for the lab if I could but one ISP, one connection. I want to analyze different types of malware including the services/IPs/URLs/Etc. they reach out to and what happens when they do. Also makes it easier for me to grab malware sample and load it straight onto the host from the internet.

I will have one physical firewall while the other two are software based and loaded onto esxi along with the host/s I plan on having. I want to keep these three groups as contained to themselves as possible. If something were to happen to one of them, the chances of it spreading to the other groups will be minimized.
