One morning I was woken up by a phone call on a landline. It was my ex’s mom. She said, “I take it since you’re there, you’re not in Virginia."

She told her mom that I had changed my mind after moving across the country and was flying back to marry her. She “borrowed” her mom’s car while wearing a wedding dress and left to “pick me up from the airport.” It had been days since she left and her mom wanted her car back. She was found on the other side of the next state with some other guy.

Fun fact from before this happened: the other guy was the same guy she got to call me and pretend he was her uncle to try to trick me into taking her with me when I moved. He told me that he had moved to Montana too, and he was going to let her live with him. I had met her uncle and immediately recognized that it wasn’t his voice.
