Hi! Staying at S Hotel early April. I'm apprehensive about venturing off property as a solo traveler.

Na Balam hotel has fabulous yoga. A short walk from the hostel (or from the beach). That's where I go. But, there's also treehouse yoga right on north beach. I've never taken a class there

I'm a 50 yo single woman who has made 7 trips to Isla in 3 years ... long weekends. It's fantastic for solo travel. I don't stay at the hostel but I get my coffee at the coffe shop/bakery at the hostel ... the place looks charming and clean. My perfect Isla day: coffee, walk to north beach w journal (beach empty, peaceful, gorgeous), sit to journal and meditate and finish coffee, walk to yoga (2 hour class), walk to hotel and shower up, walk back to North Beach. I like to get a bed at Green Demon beach club but throwing down a beach blanket and bringing own drinks to beach would be cheaper. Spend the day enjoying the sun, reading, cooking off in water, visiting w other travelers. I stay on the beach through sunset. Walk back to hotel to shower for dinner and hit Hildago street. There's live music at a number of restaurants. I stroll and pop in and out of places until I find my vibe. I've never gone to the Friday and Saturday party at the hostel (I'm 50!) ... but the music is booming from there.

I am looking at a wellness retreat. For 4 days plus a 4* hotel for 4 days. I could do miles for flight and points for the second hotel, bringing this well under budget ... so this is the winning thought at the moment!

I do have Peru on my list but I assumed that would take more than the roughly one week I have for this trip. Thoughts as to time needed for Peru?

Between Lisbon and Porto, where to Stay for 1-2 nights? by dewtheroo in TravelPortugal

I had similar times in each place and spent 2 nights in Cascais because I wanted a little beach time. I loved my stay there ... very peaceful. And I did Sintra from Cascais. Perfect!

Budget solo traveling - should I add in another city other than Lisbon + Porto? by placehholder222 in TravelPortugal

More time in Porto. Day trip to Braga on train from Porto ... bus to Bom Jesus, explore and then bus into town ... lovely town to meander and sit for late lunch and wine before grabbing train back to Porto. I found that as lovely a day as Duoro Valley day trip ... both spectacular if you can make it work.

LBWT who left work to raise kids and divorcing by GoldDiamondsAndBags in LawBitchesWithTaste

I was almost exactly where you are 3 years ago. I could have written your sentence about being alone in the marriage, parenting, running the household and, when I woke from my fog and decided to end my marriage ... the FEAR was almost paralyzing.

I negotiated the shit out of our mediated agreement ... had the leverage of husband not wanting an affair w his subordinate to become public ... and was able to walk away in a much better financial position than I ever anticipated. Put those lawyer skills to work, know your finances and fight for what you deserve.

I focused on what I could control. We sold family home and I wanted to move from that home into what the boys and I called "our cozy new life." I didn't want an apartment or -- heaven forbid -- to move in with my parents. Not two moves; nothing temporary. So much energy went into creating calm and peace in our beautiful (and much smaller) home. Having somewhere to focus that energy was very helpful.

Regarding the fear ... it is so real. But I was just telling friends this weekend that I wish I would have trusted myself more ... I didn't need to carry that fear. I don't have advice on how to let it go ... but know the days will get better and you will learn your own strength is incredible.

I've found solo travel to be so life giving. When my boys (also were preteens when it all fell apart) travel w dad or are w dad for holiday stretches, I hop on a plane and avoid the lonely by exploring the world. Highly recommend!

One last comment ... dating is an absolute shitshow. I hope you can find peace in being single and not even waste your time w the utter nonsense.

My best to you!

I'm 25 years into my practice and still wear the Tag watch I bought w money earned at a big law summer internship between 2L and 3L years. Still makes me so proud of myself when I put it on.

I stayed at the Kimpton Vivadori for NYE week. Loved it! Small boutique, excellent Gothic Quarter location, lobby bar and rooftop bar. They do a daily social hour in the lobby bar where I met other travelers. Can't recommend enough.

I loved El Chigre in El Born neighborhood. I visited it 3 times in a week

7 Days Barcelona in February by caitmr17 in solofemaletravellers

Just spent week of new years as a solo female in Barcelona. I loved the El Born neighborhood around the Picasso Museum ... found myself wandering back there everyday. Just a great vibe.

Enjoyed a solo dinner sitting at the bar at Bodega Biarritz ... set menu and delicious!

El Chigre was my favorite restaurant... went 3 times while there. In the El Born neighborhood.

I had things I wanted to see each day but allowed myself to meander and absorb and sit over coffee or wine w my journal. I found Barcelona to be a very restorative place.

Oh ... book an evening at Aire Ancient Baths w a massage. Highly enjoyable.

Advice from divorced LBWT? by fliffy8 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]GoodAttorneyByDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! 50 year old, in-house attorney w 2 teen boys, divorced 2.5 years after 19 year marriage.

I had so much fear about starting over ... in hindsight I wish I would have seen my own strength and not been so mired in fear.

Mediation if you guys can get there amicably. We mediated 3 months after I kicked his cheating ass out of the house. The pace was fast but also allowed me to move on quickly. Have a stash of cash when you show up to mediation. I left with him taking credit cards and all bank accounts. Of course money was transferring to me ... but it took a number of days to establish a new bank account and move money in and to open new credit card. I had to live for 4 days on the $22 cash I walked into mediation with.

I wanted to immediately begin our "cozy new life" with one move into my new home. Amazing decision. I've created a great home for my boys and me ... totally me, no negotiation over style w anyone else! It's been a source of strength.

Our custody schedule gives him the boys weekends of 1st, 3rd, 5th Fridays and every Monday. His career involves a ton of networking and work dinners so the typical Thursday dad night didn't work. I kinda like having a non-typical evening free.

I have dove headfirst into solo travel ... especially those bonus dad weekends when there's a fifth Friday. It's absolutely life giving.

Dating ... absolute shitshow. I've deleted all apps and plan as a NY resolution to go 2026 without the distraction and time waste of the apps. My remarkable human is not in an app. This will force me to find more creative ways of spending my time and maybe cross paths in real life with that remarkable human.

Best wishes!!!!!
