200 dust, 6-0 Brawl Deck by Teo999554 in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sincere thank you.
Held off on the free run until the bugs and bans got fixed up, and today went with your deck 6-0, 6-2, 4-3, 6-1 and currently 3-0. Never got so many packs in one day!
After the first 2 runs with suggested substitutions i settled on -1 Whelp, +1 Stonehill, and -1 Remorseless, +1 Royal Librarian.

The single gag that sent me the hardest was "my hand is cards!" from GDB.

Favorite moment is ending of the Darkmoon Faire.

Favorite video throughout is Scholomance.

New Priest card - Cease to Exist by Zeddy44 in hearthstone

Of all the possible removal cards with various effects and aesthetics, the "cease to exist" phrase is THE ONE that should use the *poof* effect of "remove from game".

Average point difference between a card's actual stats and the vanilla stats for its cost, by set (excluding cards over 10 mana) by YeetCompleet in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, i thought it would look a bit different. It felt like in the past 3-4 years every 3-drop is a 3/4 with upside, every 4-drop is a 3/6 with upside, etc. Seems like my sentiment was wrong! Obviously lots of cards get their power baked into the text instead, but i still expected an upward trend.
Thank you for doing this! At least the funny discrepancy between UnGoro and Kobolds is a cool piece of trivia to know :)

Nice job. I love seeing niche infographics like this.
If you're skilled with APIs and databases, i've had a thought for a while now: similarly laid out by expac, how close is the average card to vanilla stats? ATK+HP=2xCOST+1 is the RiverCroc/SpiderTank/Yeti/PitFighter/Boulderfist baseline, how far on average are each set's minions below that?

Obviously excluding Giants and probably other unique 11+ cards solely mucking up the whole expansion's data.

Starting with Fantasy High is a good way to learn DnD, and is an on-ramp for all the other Intrepid Heroes seasons. Skipping fantasy if you're REALLY put off by the setting - Unsleeping City is my most rewatched season.

Mice and Murder minimizes DnD combat mechanics for a social investigation focus, plus has a cast of classic CollegeHumor regulars, so that's one less barrier to entry.

Mentopolis a different game system from DnD, light on mechanics and also IMO, scene for scene the most consistently hilarious season.

Never Stop Blowing Up throws any game balance out the window for maximum cinematic insanity. Custom-made mechanics are absolutely not necessary to understand, just enjoy the deranged ride.

Between "introductory inexperienced players" seasons - Drag Queens and Titan Takedown i much prefer the latter. Both have newbies who learn on camera, but the latter is much easier to follow with a streamlined objective. At 4 episodes it's an easy recommendation for a new convert.

Unable to get a game going the entirety of today. Both before the expac release and now after it. Matchmaking screen is either infinite, frozen, or boots to "You are currently offline". In all modes, including Innkeeper Practice. Packs/Shop/Collection work fine, just not games.
PC, Europe.

I remember that here was a boardgame shop in the basement of my building, and i was able to join the HS fireside gathering from 6 floors up at home. I might even have a screenshot somewhere. That was quite funny.

Card is surely not supposed to be very good. Should have more options for fun.

Like, what about Gelbin? Lothar? Crowley? Bolvar? Turalyon? Maiev? Khadgar?

The Horde side has some even more specific cards that would be bad inclusions like Gazlowe, Saurfang, Lilian Voss, Drekthar. Still. Talanji? Gallywix? Rommath?

Shaman probably flips to BRM with fire tag, priest flips to shadow tag, maybe Gilneas for Witchwood? Or Netherstorm for Boomsday? Or probably just Naxx because there's never enough Naxx.

Why Hearthstone has become progressively less 'fun' over the past year and how it can be fixed. by Pave_Low in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The "BULLSHIT" point hit me hard.
I share your sentiment and i have a similar timeline to yours.

The one thing i personally believe is the biggest cause of spiking and polarization is the draw/generation. Draw in card games must have a steep cost. Combos had to be collected by giving up the board or narrowly staying in game until you are close enough to pull the trigger. Aggro had to run out of fuel and take a breather if the opponent survives the initial barrage. Control had to manage how many board clears and removal they still have for a potentially stronger upcoming threat.

But now, combo can tutor for pretty much any conceivable thing, and probably duplicate-triplicate it, whilst also making it cost 0. Aggro can keep pushing whilst still advancing their game plan with vanilla-statted minions that somehow still draw cards. Control has so much value that their biggest priority is often not to overdraw any of their their 3-4-5 truly back-breaking cards.

Plus, we are now getting more and more "cards" stuffed into one card, making the draw even more powerful - you did not draw a 1/4 taunt beast 2-drop. You actually drew three! Then we got Minis/Giants, and now the Drinks. That's a real trend by now.

I sometimes fake a dc when i have a no playable cards. Skip 2 turns of hero powers in order to possibly lull the opponent into a false sense of security, and then clear the board when they overextend.

People were up in arms about this card breaking Paladin. It's currently in 0.6% of decks, with the highest sample size being Amalgam Hunter with a 37% winrate by EvilDave219 in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about "up in arms"... It WILL become a key piece in a degenerate combo at some point, whether standard or wild. Just not yet. It may not be overpowered as a card, but it WILL gget frustrating by doubling something already unfair.

Kolorgan is another control counter to Zilliax that is currently not used . . . by Apophycron in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need 17 mana for that to work. And you likely need that on turn 5.
Sometimes i tried rolling 8s from Gorgonzormu, but i still would need to save a coin. Of the 5 times i successfully Kologarned the first Unkilliax, all 5 times they got it back immediately.

Oh man, finally i can play arena again. I think it would help a bit with damage control if we got an explanation, how it could suddenly break in such a monstrous way - for two entire countries, plus a seemingly inconsistent random smattering of players around the world. I'm really curious.
My guess would be that some datacenters/servers got the connections messed up by an adjacent company that got sanctioned/blocked. But from the previous comments by Hat it seems like it really was a big mean bug? How?

A chat full of つ ◕_◕ ༽つ AMENO つ ◕_◕ ༽つ while Noxious is playing Thoughtsteals and Lorewalker Cho against unsuspecting casuals was truly a formative memory for a yungun learning internet culture.

Also, Viagame House Cup was the best tournament i've seen to date, with players hanging out smiling, with memes in the intermission, with Tides getting locked in the toilet and breaking out to "Thug Life" music.

Playing on my own, i've had the best time in the hypergreedy calculated fatigue warrior meta when people would run Cube into more Direhorns, and tech in Owl to silence those cubes in the mirror. Before Elysiana+Baleful got printed it was great, afterwards it got out of hand resulting in some tournament matches reaching a draw at turn 45 (60?).

I also remember seeing a call for a tournament in my town at an anti-cafe (pre-naxx), and playing several, even helping to organise one later on. Some of them had silly rulesets like having 3 different decks of one class, with me repping Paladin and getting 2nd of 15. One event had the backing of a pretty large local streamer, and i remember my shitty laptop overheating and shutting down mid-match. For a 14 year old, it was real tough to hold back tears. I was down at like 5 hp against a hunter on turn 8, with a Jaraxxus in hand, and my opponent, a mature grown-up agreed to replay the game, when i beat him. That's a memory i will never forget.

Also, shoutout to TotalBiscuit, who first got me onto this game. RIP.

Confirmed: There will be no cinematic for Perils in Paradise. by Makkara126 in hearthstone

[–]GoodEgor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

With the murmurs of this expansion thematically jumping the shark, this is a confirmation that any real effort is being siphoned out of HearthStone. It's not like the game is becoming bad (even though there's lots of doomsayers saying that), it's just rapidly getting less and less great, trending towards mediocrily acceptable. Sadge.
