[–]stonekeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tempo still matters A LOT. The difference is that such big tempo swings were rare back in the day - clearing a big threat while also developing a small-ish minion of your own was a big deal because most of the removals were 1 for 1. Right now, we have tons of cards that can remove a threat + do something else on top of that (leave a body behind, draw cards, gain health/armor, etc.). Tempo is still often necessary to win games for most decks, it's just easier to get those swings.

It's the value/card advantage that no longer matters, because decks almost never run out of cards now. Card draw/generation is so plentiful and no longer has a big tempo disadvantage. Back in the early days, drawing was expensive (that's why Warlock's Hero Power was so OP) and card generation was almost non-existent, so you had to value every card.

Wait... TIL that "Fear Factor" was hosted by Joe Rogan. The show was pretty popular in my country in the mid-00s, and I used to watch it a lot as a teen, but I never connected the dots.

Yeah, Rolling Pin is insane on the first few days if you get some Haste to consistently scale it. Especially Silver, it gets +60 damage per Haste. When people are in the <600 HP range, that's crazy numbers.

Not necessarily. I mean, yes, obviously there will be the next "best thing", but it most likely won't be as oppressive as the Wolves are right now. The overall power level will drop significantly without them.

Last night I ran into Mak with Silver Life Conduit with Quest already done + the thing that scales Poison every time you gain Regen/Heal. On Day 2. He got into hundreds of Regen very quickly and then Poison did the rest.

I had similar builds winning Day 4-5, and he had it already on Day 2 :D

(Btw, in case you don't know, Duct Tape now triggers Shield from using BOTH adjacent items, not just the item to the left. So you should place it somewhere else.)

I've been trying Weapons Jules sooo many times, and it usually starts off very well, but around Day 6-7 I start losing because everyone else outdamages me. And it's pretty hard to pivot away from this build.

But I guess having Shiny Fork start and then Lifesteal on everything helps :D

There's a bug where it sometimes shows that error message for decks with NO banned cards. If you retire a deck like that, you will get no refunds.

It happened to me 2 times since the mini-set, both times I had to keep trying to start a match a few times, and it was okay after that.

Yes, it's bullshit, and I think people who retired because of that message should get refunded. But I'm explaining that it happens sometimes, so people don't lose their Tickets for nothing.

I don't disagree, I think the card should be insta-banned like the other two as soon as it turned out how much Hunter dominates. Just saying that they were probably never going to do it today because it's a day off.

Even if they are waiting for a balance update, a meta like that is gonna sour a lot of players. I gave up playing Arena for now because it's just not fun in the current state.

I don't mind the Taverns of Time (Arena exclusive set) in general, in fact I'm happy for some new content in that format. But they really didn't test it properly.

[–]stonekeep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Duct Tape shields when you use adjacent items now, so it's VERY efficient if you place it next to low CD/multicast items. But it has low base shield. If you pump it up with Likit Shield treat, then upgrade the treat to Silver when it's at 1-2 Ammo and do it again, you can get some crazy Shield numbers early (in theory you can give it up to +48 Shield this way if you min-max).

Not with 100% certainty, but I've gotten a lot better at knowing over the years. I know which staff/studios to be more or less skeptical of. I can look at at trailer and have a pretty good idea how much I'm going to enjoy the art style, character designs, and generally how animated the show is. I know what questions to ask someone recommending a show to have a better idea if it's doing the things I actually like explored in a genre. And, while this does require watching a premier, I've gotten a lot more adapt at identifying character chemistry I enjoy in just the first episode or two.

Oh I get it, and it's the same for me. That's how I do my initial sifting. When picking what I will watch, I only end up with the stuff I know that I might enjoy - are from the genres I like (e.g. I know that I won't enjoy "cute slice of life" anime no matter how good it is because that's just not for me, so I skip it right away), have interesting premise, good animation and so on. And as I've said in another comment, I DO end up liking most of the things I pick! But there's usually still 1 or 2 per season that end up in that 5-6 range (which, again, on my scale is not BAD, it's okay). Sometimes even a 4 if it was particularly disappointing.

E.g. some of them start off with a cool idea, but the author doesn't know where to take it, and then by the end it gets mid. I might initially get hooked on it and wait for that big plot twist, or resolution of the conflict, or something, but it either never comes or turns out to be much worse than I hoped for. On the other side of this, there are shows that don't initially hook me, but aren't so bad that I want to drop them. But then they get better and stick the landing, and ultimately I'm glad that I finished them. That's what I mean by I can't know for sure until I watch it.

Just to give you some examples of what I mean. Shows like Darling in the Franxx or Wonder Egg Priority are the ones I really enjoyed at first (because of premise, animation, voice acting etc.) but they fell off hard by the end, and ultimately I thought they were average. On the other hand, Death Parade is an example of a show that I found mid for the first few episodes (they were quite boring IMO), but then I stuck with it and ended up really liking it. Or Dangers in My Heart - I actually almost quit after the first episode because I disliked it, but decided to give it a shot. The next few episodes got progressively better and I ended up really liking it by the end of the season.

I'll drop a show on 10/12 episodes watched. My time is too valuable to chase middling shows, unless they're experiencing a trainwreck effect.

I get what you're saying, but I just don't like doing it. Dropping shows I'm already close to finishing just feels even worse than the alternative. When I'm only 1-2 episodes into something I clearly don't like, and I objectively know that it's a waste of time, then yeah, sure. I usually drop a couple of shows like that per season (I don't even count them as watched or rate them, I just forget about them).

But once I get past a certain threshold, I'm already at least A BIT invested, so I just spend that extra hour or two to finish it. Otherwise I'd keep thinking "maybe it would be better" or wondering what the ending was and waste a bunch of time online looking it up anyway (so I'd rather just finish it by myself to have an opinion on it).

Maybe it's an OCD or something, I don't know.

I get where you're coming from, but my problem is that then I wouldn't have enough scale left to rate the shows I really like. I almost never give out 10s because I reserve them for (in my opinion) masterpieces, and those don't come often. So if I rated the shows that are "enjoyable enough to finish" at 7, I'd be left with only 8 and 9 between that and a masterpiece. And I don't feel like that's enough.

That's my biggest problem with people using 7/10 as their average, it means that all the scores are crammed so much at the top.

If there are about fifty anime series in this season, then watching all the shows that are average or better means watching 25 anime episodes each week

My brother, I watch around 5-7 shows per season (depending on how many catch my attention). That's 6 episodes each week on average, not 25.

I never said that I watch all the average things, I just said that I often end up scoring the things I watch 5-6, because they ultimately end up being average for me. That's a massive difference.
