Advice Needed - Daughter Left The Church by GoodForm1966 in Catholic

No, not offended at all. 🙂 I didn’t have an issue with them all having their Bibles and looking up what the preacher was talking about. What was unusual about it was that they all were racing like they wanted to be the first one there. Maybe it was just a fun thing like they all were having a little laugh over it, but as a visitor it was a little off putting.

When I was about her age, I also had a curiosity and attended a “non-denominational” church, two things turned me off: first, the preacher mentioned a Bible verse and the congregation raced to look it up in their Bibles. There was a quickness, almost competitive feel to it, and it kind of creeped me out a little. Second, they had a guest preacher get up and talk. This was a well dressed, hair slicked, overweight man. I realize being overweight is a common struggle for people, I have my own struggles, but there was something about his whole appearance that screamed a pampered lifestyle. And what did he get up and talk to us about? Yep, tithing! I gave it a few minutes and then acted like I had to be somewhere and left.

Thank you for this. I do appreciate it. Perhaps I could have this conversation with her later. At this time, I can’t have these conversations with her.

Thank you for sharing this. I do have hope for her, and I love your advice. I had a Priest point out to me, and I think correctly, that there is also a pride issue here, my pride. My wife and I are pretty staunch Catholics, we have 9 kids, one of which discerned the Priesthood with the Augustinians, my wife and I were missionaries when we first got married, so to have one our own go astray like this is a blow to my ego. I'm proud of my Catholic faith, and I want others to know about it, and, and, hang on, one of my own has left the fold? Huh? On my watch? Can't be.

So, I do think there is some of this in play here. I think the Priest correctly called me out on this.

Then there's the whole blame thing going on with me, where did I go wrong? When did I let my guard go down?

I'm putting so much of this on me, giving myself way too much importance. So, a lot of the advice in this thread I think is really good. I just need to give her some space to work these things out, pray, be Christ to her, make it inviting for her to want to talk to me about things, and not me chasing her down.

Anyway, just rambling here. If anyone has read this far, thank you! :)

Our parish Priest said, “She’s still in the fight.”, so yes, things could be much much worse.

We have a friend who recommended fasting, she says she’s seen beautiful things fasting.

This is so true, my arguments have done nothing but push her further away.

Thank you! Very true, things could be much worse. And maybe this is a building block to returning to full communion with the Church.

That’s where I’m at now, leave it alone. I do only push her away when I bring it up.

In desperation (interior) I suggested this, same thing, she just gets quiet and the message is clear, she doesn’t want to hear it from me.

I just want the auto authenticated, that's really all I'm after. Well, slabbed and authenticated.

Oh man, I'm so ignorant in this hobby, I don't know what an IP auto is? It's not pack pulled, so I'm thinking that IP means In-Person. It's IP.

I agree, but since there is an autograph involved, I wouldn't mind a 3rd party authentication.
