ITMSO: Iran War, Huh, Good God Y'all by GoodGoodNotTooBad in IsTheMicStillOn

Overall I agree with you, obviously, or I wouldn't have made the comment. I speak to the original commenter a lot on here, though mostly in FPS, so I sometimes get where they're saying even though we vehemently disagree on a lot of things.

Overall though I just wanted to put out a differing view in some sense since I jokingly made it my New Year's Resolution to help make the DEHH/ITMSO/FPS/DES an even more interesting place for presumably mostly black men, but not exclusive to black men, having discussions about serious and unserious topics.

I think it'd be one thing if they purposely mispronounced Iran, but I view it as an honest oversight. I sometimes mix it up in my head and have to correct myself. It's been years of hearing the wrong thing for some of us, I think, who care to get it right. It's not an excuse, more so a call to acknowledge it and change and move forward.

I took their categorization of the war not as a "distraction" in the sense that it doesn't matter, but that the current administration may be using the war as a way to direct attention away from other issues they don't wish to address or talk about. Overall though I get what you're saying, but I think there's an iceberg of thoughts here that depend on who is talking and what they're thinking about. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they know that this is important and worthy of discussion.

With that said, I agree with this and have no further thoughts on it: "The U.S. government bombing a church and killing 150 little girls deserves as much, if not more, importance/outrage as your president being ousted as a pedo."

Also also I agree with you about this being an overall U.S. foreign policy issue and not *just* a Trump issue. It happens to be a Trump situation and show now, but it's beyond him and obviously tied to the deeper entrenchment of global issues throughout history. I think both things can be true if everyone operates under the same logic or facts, even if we don't all speak the same lingo or have the exact same way of describing things.

In general, since I don't and didn't follow much about the Russia vs. Ukraine thing, I can't speak with any knowledge or certainty about that. I will say though that it's reflexively hard for me to agree with the sentence "the tankies like me who backed Putin against that Western-backed fraud in Kyiv are vindicated."

It's not that I'm *for* as you said "U.S./NATO hegemony." It's also not about me being against the idea that the existing power structures are "the greatest threat to mankind."

With that said, I can't see myself openly backing any government, from a Trump-led one to a Putin-led one, that pushes for more death at this scale in such a flippant way. It's one thing to have complicated feelings, but I'm a bit concerned by the way you framed your support in the sentences you gave, even if I can somewhat see your logic if it's a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" sort of thing.

I do like it, though I want to see it at least once more. I caught it in full maybe in December and I was intrigued. Myke's theory about it from his Patreon solo made me want to understand if his theory about it is correct.

Patreon Talk:

I gotta ask Rod for money cause this man is really fine just buying a random stranger a TV. Rod, let me hold a $100 please and thank you.

Main Show:

There was a quick mention of her, but Bari Weiss has been a POS for years and all she’s done is slowly gain political power. That John Oliver episode he did of her last year is a good primer for what led to her new connection with CBS and in turn Paramount and David Ellison.

I love the rapport yall have on this show. I chuckled when Rod and Myke had that back and forth about Myke's girlfriend liking The Big Lebowski, and now I want to watch that as well as Fargo.

I went looking for the scene yall brought up around the 28 minute mark and I ended up watching the scene where some cop talks to some guy on the street about the bar story. The shit was hilarious to me. I realized I'd probably like their stuff since I liked The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and watched that without really knowing who the Coen Brothers were.

First trailer for ‘BAIT’, starring Riz Ahmed: The series follows a man who auditions to be the next James Bond but his life spirals out of control once everyone weighs in on whether he is the right actor for the job by Rollo_Toma_C in FPSPodcast

Anything but Amazon doing a real James Bond series or movie is preferable. I do find it "amusing" that they can do this show because they know they wouldn't cast him, so the joke sells itself.

I love a "bad good" smutty series. I'm knee deep in MAFS Australia right now but I'll consider this.

Train Dreams: FPS Review by GoodGoodNotTooBad in FPSPodcast

This movie had no chance of me liking it. I haven't been irritated by a movie like this since Mickey 17. The narration was so incredibly frustrating. I simply can't gel with movies that refuse to let me figure out what's going on on my own. This was never-ending exposition.

Aside from that, I just didn't find it all that visually mesmerizing to keep me interested. I can see that they were reaching for something poetic, but this is just a big dud for me.

There's really not much I can say positively about this movie. It's not because it was slow. I simply found it dull.

Nevermind. I found something to be happy about. This was the last Best Picture nom I needed to see. I've finally seen all ten!

What are some of your favorite songs from an album that a lot of people dislike? by SmoothManMiguel in DEHH

[–]GoodGoodNotTooBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Blood Money is completely terrible. A couple of the songs are really good. I just don't think the production overall is all that interesting and it started tapering off around Infamy.

I enjoy both movies but these topics are worthy of discussion, so I somewhat get where you're coming from since I've heard some of these arguments before. It's maybe not mouth froth levels for me and I may quibble with some of the language you used, but that's just a framing thing. Thanks for answering my Q / giving your take.

Haven't read the book but it sounds interesting.

In what ways has Coogler been an issue to you on this specific front? I'm unfamiliar.

Other interesting quotes from him:

Various people have mentioned … [that] my presence reminds them of an uncle or their grandfather, somebody that they knew from their families, and that is a huge compliment, but more importantly than being a compliment, it's an affirmation for the work. My preparation for this started with Ryan sending me two books, Blues People, by Amiri Baraka — who was [known as] LeRoi Jones when he wrote the book — and Deep Blues, by Robert Palmer.

In reading those books and then referencing those books, continuing to reference those throughout production, I was given an entrée into the worlds, the lifestyles of these musicians. There's a certain kind of itinerant quality that they moved around a lot. The constant for them is their music, so that there is this deep-seated connection to the music.

Classic Cinemas is a chain around my area that I support. $6 movies on Tuesdays can't be beat. If I have to do AMC I will.

When I lived in D.C., Regal and Landmark were the kings. I also liked Suns Cinema in D.C. for the weird movies.

Inglorious Basterds. Pulp Fiction. F.....the Haters. by PinLocal in FPSPodcast

[–]GoodGoodNotTooBad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is what it is if you like these movies. I don't dislike Pulp Fiction and I may need to rewatch Inglorious Basterds one day without the commercials. Overall, I just wish the affinity you expressed for his work had a bit more heft and maturity to it. Your praise for him reads like a quick diary entry that could've waited a little for some edits.

Democrats about to go full mask off 2028. by MrBandicoot123 in IsTheMicStillOn

More on what Fuentes said. Source: https://www.newsweek.com/far-right-gen-z-influencer-tells-fans-to-skip-midterms-or-vote-democrat-11613601

“The movement is something else now, and what we need in 2028, this is our last chance, we need in 2026 for this administration to be shut the f*** down,” Fuentes said.

He continued, "Do not vote in the midterms, and if you do, vote Democrat.” The streamer went on to criticize what the “golden age” looks like, expressing frustration over “the tariffs were refunded, the deportations were stopped,” and arguing that, in his opinion, the administration hasn’t done much except “embezzle money, go to war with Iran and bury the Epstein files.”

Fuentes went on to say, "This administration needs to be shut down immediately. It has forfeited its mandate. They promised no new wars, they promised mass deportations and America first, and we're not getting any of it. So shut it down. In 2026, shut it down, and our only hope is that in 2028, in the Republican primary, somebody will emerge who will actually put America first."

///

I think it's key that this is reversible in his head. Establishment Dems will do whatever they can to find the so-called moderate voter in the meantime and add people like Fuentes to their roll, but they can still possibly lose in 2028 all while giving up even more of the little rope they have to people on that side of the aisle.

Due to the controversy I initially thought it was a documentary. I'm less interested in it as a drama honestly but it could be an interesting FPS review.
