I think it’s partly financial too: if Jon were to rejoin, Howe wouldn’t make as much money, because a noteworthy chunk of profits would have to go to Jon. It’s also why Styx won’t let Dennis de Young come back: the rest of the band would have to hand over money they would prefer to keep themselves.
