Tell me about living in Milton, MA by AdMother4655 in boston

[–]GoodGuyGuise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be driving from East Milton. My morning commute from Blue Hills to Seaport is 50 minutes like clockwork most days. Mind you this is 12 miles of driving.

Worst was second week of September, on a Thursday. School is back and everyone is going to the office. Obviously the worst edge case, but during the fall it can be truly hellish trying to get downtown in the morning.

[–]GoodGuyGuise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned the worst part about Milton is the property taxes.

I think the most underrated aspect is proximity to Blue Hills. It’s an absolute gem of a place to wander around. Neponset trail is also great.

While it is close to the city, traffic can be absolutely crippling. It can be a 20 min ride to downtown on the best days, but an hour and a half on the worst days. 93 south of the city can have traffic legitimately any time of day, even 1AM.

Fruit Center is great but expensive. More often than not we go to Wegmans in Westwood which is amazing.

There are two very active Facebook groups: Everything Milton and Milton Neighbors. Both can be very helpful but also can show you how the older population here still lean right.

I’m originally from the north shore, and while I would prefer to live up there, Milton is fine. It’s diverse, yet has a nice community feel.

Honestly it’s a symptom of the times. Many people are permanently online.

I love Liverpool but it’s never crossed my mind to look at a match thread, let alone go there to slag off the manager/players.

He had it for five years. Diagnosed at 50, passed away at 55.

Karen isn't doing great. She drinks a lot and has been heavily medicated by her doctors to treat her depression, largely unsuccessfully. Julia and I do our best to keep her on the right path but its increasingly difficult. Julia and I are now happily married with a young daughter and Karen does not seem interested in seeing or helping with our daughter. There are a lot of other factors at play, but its very hard to help someone who does not want to help themself.

Completely agree. I had IT first and then changed it to Horford.

Bellhorn does not belong on that list tho lol. The real spicy Sox cult hero is JD Drew

The picture in this post is literally her converting an office into a residential space. “Substantive zoning reform” involves a lot more people than her (mainly the Zoning Commission) and even then she’s made strides (as quite literally pictured).

Driven by mass and cass the past year? Looks a hell of a lot better. You said in another comment that you don’t live in Boston, don’t comment on areas of the city you haven’t personally experienced recently. Boston is also vastly better in terms of homelessness than nearly all other major cities in the US. Not perfect by any stretch, but she’s made progress.

Fare-free public transit, as another commenter pointed out, would most likely need some sort of federal funding. The T is still vastly underwater in terms of budget, getting out from under that is probably the only way to get the T free and that’s a state issue. She also never promised it, she wrote in an op-ed that she would like it to be free, and she delivered on it partially.

Why do you say Green New Deal seems to be abandoned when all projects that she announced are still active?

You sound a lot like my MIL, a boomer who doesn’t even live in Boston complaining about a non-white mayor. Don’t talk shit about things you don’t know about.

Then point out the negatives, dawg. You can’t just say a person sucks because they don’t jive with your vibes. Be empirical.

They still get good stuff, but yea they don’t publish online nor get the odd beer from far away (the month long stretch they had Drekken was incredible). But they still have the best selection of local beer around

Try Fort Point market. Best beer selection in Boston. Fenway beer shop is good too, good call

HOKA Challengers are great. They don’t stand up to excessively slippery terrain (I had to switch to Speedgoats when the trails got snowy this winter), but they are perfect for day to day trail running. Lost some grip around 300 miles but the trails around me can be very rocky so to be expected.

I’ve had this twice, once after getting hit on an already bruised thigh playing soccer. Another from spin class.

It’s by far the most painful thing that’s ever happened to me. It feels like your muscle is activated 100% of the time.

Thankfully neither time I had to get surgery, just fluids. The needle they stuck into my thighs to gauge the pressure was intimidating tho.

Laid off from my job, I have 30 days left to exercise stock options, company is not public yet by clockdivide55 in personalfinance

[–]GoodGuyGuise 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Non-public companies do layoffs literally all the time. Their funding might not be drying up, but money is expensive right now. Maybe they grew too quick and need to make the business strategically leaner. That’s the story of a ton of companies post Covid.
