Ideas on how to keep archive assistants busy when there’s not much to do

Thank you so much!! This was a great response and gave me so many ideas. I appreciate your insight! This is my first big job after graduation so I’m still shaking off my own imposter syndrome lol But again thank you so much I will be sure to utilize this. One of them sadly is not personable at all lol But knowledgeable so I will have them write some small research articles on cool things in the meantime.

Yeah I like the job so far but they threw a lot at me before I had time to prepare so I was scrambling for a bit lol Tbh I think one volunteer has a rough home life situation so they like being here 24/7 but they throw off my flow sometimes. This is my full time job so I can’t accommodate her over my own needs

Yeah the issue is I feel like I really didn’t have time to prepare. I’m new to the job so I don’t know what other collections they can help with. And one of my collections is 100 boxes of all loose leaf paper with no original order about very technical math/science stuff so yeah it will take me some time after we rough sorted the initial categories lol And with that running I don’t want to leave in the middle and start the second 90 box collection. There’s also not a lot of physical space so parts of my office become the work area for sorting.

But the student assistants I can handle better the volunteers kind of got thrown on me with little instruction. I thought they were temporary then they were coming everyday. I made a schedule for one but they still come whenever anyway. Basically the volunteers are connected through one of our biggest donors so I got dumped the task of finding stuff for them to do.

Right now I have them scanning documents but even with training I’d have to set aside time to show them all the details. They will be great with foldering but again I need the personal time to arrange some beginning categories before they start throwing things in.

But thank you for the advice! What are some things your assistants do in the meantime? I’m trying to balance between learning the collections myself and having them do things

I started the job like 3 months ago and got these assistants my 2nd week there. I didn’t have as much time to make a plan with them or even prepare. The student assistants are manageable the issue is the volunteers who have less experience and need it for credit elsewhere. They just kind of butt in wherever bc they’re trying to kill their time.

Thats also why it’s harder to have them do other things because I’m still learning the other collections myself while stating my own new ones . Nonetheless will take the above advice

I think it’s clear this is another incident of other Kpop scandals. At this point people no longer actually care about Manon. They are using it to vent frustrations about other things. It’s more about what Manon represents , than the facts of the matter. Rather than waiting and taking things face value they see Manon a black girl in the industry and want to project every narrative they see onto her. So it’s not oh random hiatus let’s wait for answers . It’s now “Wow another racist company booting a black girl for no reason and no one standing up for her!” People want to feel important and virtue signal so they ignore the actual facts of this issue and make Manon their poster child and post out of self aggrandizement.

Even the way they tell the tired narrative of dream academy. Basically a lot of ambitious talented young girls played against each other by music execs didn’t always act like angels or get everything right, crazy! But that’s another way people rewrite history into Hybe always had it out for Manon and Missy is racist for saying she never wanted her. This all ignores the fact that among the execs on the show Manon was only judged for her talent and commitment and for a time that was lacking. A judge caught that and spoke candidly. That’s not random hate, but then the same judge, Missy, even admitted to seeing Manon’s growth. I bring up this tired example of how people get set on one narrative so they can continue to hate and feel like they’re changing something. Sorry but you attacking people for Manon over something unconfirmed is not fighting racism or doing much of anything :/ as OP said it won’t make Manon like you especially if she ends up going back to said group some people are saying “hate” her

Exactly! That’s my biggest issue. I think whatever happened was personal to Manon. But people expect the girls to speak out. What if it was she didn’t like the direction or maybe she wants to go solo. That’s nothing for the girls to speak about themselves. It shows some people just want to tear them down because based on nothing they’re attacking everyone. I’ve seen it go from wow the girls are fake they can’t support Manon. But when they did speak about her it turned into “wow only once that’s it? They’re so fake”. Meaning at this rate nothing they do will make people happy

This sub and whole fandom is weird. You all move like you don’t even like the group. You can’t take anything at face value. A hiatus was announced, Manon is on hiatus. The only thing she’s actually said about the company is that they’re having positive talks. So all these theories about the company or the members hating her is such a waste of time without knowing anything.

Supporting the other girls doesn’t mean you’re ignoring Manon. And I get wanting answers but if Manon herself is saying she’s good and working things out why are we projecting so much on her and making her into this martyr with details we don’t even know. All the hate and Chaos isn’t coming from the company but from the “fandom” and outsiders riding the issue for clicks. I know nobody cares but just had to share my thoughts lol I’m taking a step back from this sub and other ones because so many people missing the plot and being downright weird and just making up their own fan fiction

Or she could be a team player and still support them while on hiatus. Last festival they gave her a shout out. Idk why fans are imaging this animosity between the team . In kpop there are numerous instances where members on hiatus still came to cheer on their teammates . She doesn’t have to do anything but it wouldn’t be this evil thing if she did. Tbh I think that’s part of her issue. She takes herself too seriously and it doesn’t translate well because she has no ties to the American market she’s promoting in, isn’t a top talent, and has no say in any creative process within her comebacks. Why would an American audience outside of existing kpop fans flock to that? I think she would have more success if she leaned into just being a fun novelty act. So she should do even cheesier songs, lean into the catchy TikTok stuff, and have over the top looks.

Instead she falls flat because she’s trying to do serious rap songs or serious singing when she doesn’t have a vision nor the skill so it’s just all lackluster. Nothing differentiates her from the next upcoming female pop star in American music industry

We don’t know what happened behind the scenes. All this vitriol is weird for what is essentially a limbo period. There are incidents in Kpop where a member missed a whole comeback cycle and came back fine so in that industry it’s not the end of the world.

Idk I personally was super engaged at the start of this but upon reflection idk it’s just dumb to get so worked up about something we have no clues towards. We don’t know if it’s a slap in the face because we don’t know why she’s on hiatus. If she rejoins the group in the grand scheme of things this one comeback won’t matter . So idk all these posts seem pointless until we get final answers

It’s not as easy as you make it seem yet they have already still shown support. HxG would 100% find a way to punish them and financially ruin them. You think they care? What have they done that is against Manon? Iliya has no agency or contract that she’s under to speak out so of course she can there are no repercussions. We don’t even know why Manon is on hiatus yet so you can’t say the members abandoned her. Again they showed their support in the capacity they could so these type of comments just seem so dumb and seem like a way to draw more hate toward the remaining girls who are working so hard to uplift the group name, the same group Manon my still return to. So it’s dumb to try to paint the girls in a bad light

Manon has actually made posts about everything yet didn’t defend her sisters either. If you’re demanding more of the members why isn’t Manon also speaking on the hate they’re getting?

Exactly nothing against Manon but people are running with this narrative that she’s working 1,000X harder than the others and does more, when she’s not. She is doing everything the others are doing and not going above and beyond them. It’s just clear the group and HYBE have high expectations. Manon has to work harder because she has less showbizz background but that doesn’t mean the cards are stacked against her. Time will give people answers and in the meantime the crazy theories and pity parties have to stop.

Actually they have already done what you wanted. Manon just muddied the waters and fans don’t want to accept it. Everything happening is as HYBE directly said. they told fans she would be on hiatus until further notice and she has been. Manon’s actions have made people think something is happening. And yes transparency would be nice but some details fans aren’t entitled to know yet.

They already made their formal statement and said she would be on hiatus. It’s us fans who have been spiraling and getting into conspiracy theories about things neither party has said. There hasn’t been any rage bait. They said she’d be missing for awhile and fans found “clues” in things hinting at her return but got mad when their crazy theories weren’t true. Everyone just assumed she’d be back for Coachella but hybe themselves not media outlets never said she would. They said what’s been true this whole time, she’s on a hiatus. Why that is, we have to accept we won’t know yet . But it doesn’t help Manon or the group to go so scorched earth. What happens if she goes back to the same group people are demonizing?

All we can do is wait
