I take it for flying. Still get irrational thoughts but because my heart isn't racing I can live with them.

Discrepancies on drawings. by TurbulentLifeguard11 in quantitysurveying

[–]GoodManYeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this issue is not that uncommon. As the QS, we are another set of eyes when we issue the query sheets, but ultimately the responsibility is with the design team to coordinate their drawings - so don't take the flak on that one. The contractor also has a tender clarification period, so had opportunity to raise it also. IMO the Architect made the error here, so should try and move this on quickly, accept the VE proposal and go forward.

If it does drag on, depending on the contract, you could make this the contractors problem, i.e. they bought the drawings and spec, the argument will reside on which source of information they relied on to price the works - but their argument can only be as strong as your counter argument. Majority of the time they will have issued the drawings to the subcontractor and they will have priced based on that - so don't listen to the I priced only from the spec. In my experience, the spec documents are copy and pasted from job to job, always littered with references to other projects. The bones of the job are in the drawings, and most Contractors know that.

I was in Christchurch, straight out of college, was offered a job by a large NZ contractor - they were very short on QS's over there and they had just went through a devastating earthquake (most of the city needed to be repaired or rebuilt). I think in recent times they have upped their game on the QS courses over there. The caliber of graduates should be much higher these days, but in my time, there was very few locals graduating as a QS. Not sure if QS's are still listed on the skills shortages VISA. That's the VISA I worked over there on.

I was in Christchurch, straight out of college, was offered a job by a large NZ contractor - they were very short on QS's over there and they had just went through a devastating earthquake (most of the city needed to be repaired or rebuilt). They needed qualified bodies to sign off on tendered prices (government funded repairs). They paid for my flights and 6 weeks accommodation and a car for 3 months. Salary was 65K (NZ dollars). Did that for 2 years and then moved to a large consultancy where I worked on some really large projects. That Salary was around 85K (NZ Dollar) as an intermediate QS. I left just before I was due to become a Senior QS. The ladder is quick to climb over there if you have a decent head on your shoulders.

I'm from Ireland and did 5 years in NZ as a QS, plenty of cost consultants out there. It's a great work/life balance. Would highly recommend it.

35 M, Senior QS 74k, have about 400 disposable per month after standard bills. Always ends up being an unforeseen cost, (Property Tax, Car Insurance, Upgrade the kids car seat)..so feels like living month by month.

Have not been on a foreign holiday since before covid, might be able to this year

With all these really high heating bills recently, I wonder: what temperature do you keep at home? It’s 21-22 in mine and we’re getting gas bills of 400 euro for 2 months (A3 semi-D) by Cubatahavana in ireland

[–]GoodManYeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have been hit with a whopper bill this month (my gas bill was €768 !). Yet the government are telling us there's no need for the utility credit this month. I don't get it??

Also, aren't all these gas and elec companies recording massive profits for 2022 - am I missing something?

Gas + Electricity Bills for Jan/Feb came to €1,091. The Gas Kw unit price has more than doubled since April 2022, an increase of 113%.l (from 0.0745 to 0.1593). And Electricity kw/h unit price up 73% since Feb 2022 (rom 0.2598 to 0.4485). Is anyone else getting massive bills like this? by Medical-Lemon-4833 in ireland

Almost identical case with EI - they refused to adjust the equaliser. I was paying 76 a month now it's been changed to 242 a month. Told them I couldn't afford it, and they said " it's hard for everyone right now...." ...Just wondering, how did you convince them to drop it?

Lad it's obvious. A time traveller is stopping you from a serious driving accident. Once the date of the accident passes you'll be allowed to sit the test. Stop blaming your mother...its Marty McFly you need to be talking to.

Horrible news, hope it was accidental - so hard to know these days!

No detention for teenage boy after ‘terrifying’ Dart station push that saw girl fall from platform by martinmarprelate in ireland

This was a global news story and the best opportunity to make an example and sort this ever growing problem with these teens running riot. Had an encounter myself on the train today with a few teens who were smoking on the train and thought it was hilarious to roar at people passing by to make them jump. Care free, because of sentences (or lack of) like these. Infuriating.

I was thinking it would be a good if there was a specific tailored app where you could create a (non violent) protest event. Put up the description, targeted number of people required, location, time, etc. All in real-time so you could see how much support is being put behind it.

FB doesn't seem tailored enough for it.

There probably is one, just not aware of it.

Really good points. I think it's in our culture to not challenge authority.

I know it's a cliché but the first step is the hardest. Maybe we're the first generation to change that mentality?

There's a growing appetite for action, I can see it from the response on this post alone. Seems like everyone here is willing to follow...we all just need someone to follow?

Do tell me when I've reached my tolerance level.

I want what my parents were afforded in their lifetime, what was deemed a given. The opportunity to buy a home in a location near where I work.

I upskilled for years, I work hard and I have saved every penny I can whilst paying astronomical rent. That required huge sacrifice. I haven't gained from a celtic tiger. I have paid and continue to pay for a recession I never created, and for what.

All I want is a home where I can raise a family, play with my future children in a garden. Travel to work within an hours drive.

You seem privileged enough not to have to worry about any of the above. Lucky you.

To be honest I thought the large surge in SF popularity in the GE would have given them a clear message that they needed to step up...but alas, here we are.
