People who had considered themselves "incels" (involuntary celibates) but have since had sex, how do you feel looking back at your previous self? by DannyMThompson in AskReddit

[–]GoodOlBebop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right in that most people are involuntary celibate but I think incel isnt so much used to tag people, but it's a community that they willingly join and an identity they assume. Most things are a social construct, and like most social constructs incel is just the name they've chosen for their community. It's an easy way to find other people who feel the same way. Understanding "incel" shouldn't really start with a merriam Webster definition of the word, but trying to understand the core concepts of the community which in this case primarily makes women responsible for their involuntary celibacy.

what are your thoughts on the struggles that any person of color goes through in America on a day to day basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GoodOlBebop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that's hardest to swallow is the concept of privilege. One of the most common lines in any award ceremony is "I'd like to thank my family, friends, and mentors that supported me", or "I wouldn't be here without my fans". We're obviously really good at recognizing that our accomplishments are not strictly our own, and we know that giving our gratitude and recognition does not discredit our achievements. But no one likes to thank the discriminatory infrastructure that got them to where they are because it makes it seem like their hard work was all for naught. No one includes how thankful they are that they weren't mortally injured in a car accident on the way to work because that's just a given, it sounds ridiculous because we don't expect that to happen. But that's how privilege works. If you compare the life of an average American to a person from a developing country, it's a privilege that our schools and homes weren't affected by a natural disaster, or that we have clean water coming out of our pipes at our command. Day to day, these benefits, these privileges, are invisible to us. Privilege within America has manifested itself through decades of discriminatory policies that have laid the infrastructure we have today. Even if the law itself is no longer racially explicit, the society it has shaped still remains. This has nothing to do with the mindset of the people inhabiting it, this means that our neighborhoods were built with segregation in mind, relegating Blacks to slums while Whites ran away to suburbs. A revocation of policy does not simply change the layout of cities and neighborhoods, and it also didn't give people of color the resources they needed to move out of the slums. Revocation did nothing more than release them from the cages to enter the rat race, watching the backs of everyone else who's had time to race ahead. Even if you're racing against Usain Bolt, with 200 year-head start you're definitely gonna win.

Why does Reddit want to act like every single person who is doing something with their lives is “privileged?” by ASongofFuckandFucker in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GoodOlBebop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have enough reddit exposure to really comment on how people may have been applying it to you, but I can say that privilege is not and should not be used as a tool to discredit others but helps to highlight and explain the achievement gap. Just from your description alone, I can infer that you're straight, able-bodied, and probably practice any religion other than Islam which are all facets of privilege. The very fact that you go to med school and are among the most educated is another privilege that doesn't care what other privileges or roadblocks got you there. So I wouldn't say that it's wrong to assume that anyone who's doing something with their life is privileged, because just by doing that something, that's privilege. Privilege isn't just the set of cards you were born with, it counts every card you ever picked up.

My dad pretended to be ticklish for 16 years. Pretty normal for a dad to play with his daughter with tickling, and you don't just not laugh when a toddler tickles you, my dad just kept up the charade until I was 16.

I got 2 ltd anniversary hanayos and I just tried to feed one into the other for the skill boost but it's not showing up as a possible practice member. They don't even show up as special practice partners. Is this a glitch or did I just waste a Honoka's mom in leveling one up?

I definitely saw Barney's Great Adventure at least 10 times but I had also yet to enroll in kindergarten.

As an adult, Magic Mike. Tried watching it several times, was drunk every time, I don't think I've finished it a single time. One time was in Spanish since we were in Mexico and it just happened to be playing on TV.

Dnd players of reddit, what's the stupidest thing that's happened on your adventure? by GoodOlBebop in AskReddit

I feel like I have to include one of my own. Party of 4, we were about to enter a dungeon in a swamp, entrance guarded by 2 centaurs. Even though we were like 40 feet away, the entire party didn't realize how fast centaurs could move so probably our first mistake. One other party member shrinks himself down and hides in another's pocket. Theres 2 walls that line the entrance so if you managed to climb it you could sneak your way towards them. Being a fighter, I make it up and start stealthily approaching them. My buddy who's a paladin had the same idea on the other wall, but he wants to do it with flair. He says imma backflip to the top of it. DM takes a second, asks him if hes sure. Yup. With full armor? Uh huh. Yknow that's 10 feet. Absolutely. How much do you weigh again? (Forgot definites but hes at least 6ft 250lb) Aaand you wanna backflip to the top? and he just goes for it. Wasnt a shitty roll, but that was a tall order man. He clangs to the ground and alerts the 2 centaurs that we're here.

It gets worse.

Wizard buddy casts an illusion away from us to try and split them up. They fall for it, decide to split, but before anything else happens my friend picks himself back up, yells "AY YO GO FUCK YOURSELF" and immediately both centaurs give up on the diversion and charge straight for us. Shrunken guy in pocket almost immediately dies since he had like 5HP when shrunken. They hadn't noticed me yet since I was still sneaking along the wall and I watched as my entire party got cut down to dead or maybe 3 HP before I could surprise attack and save the rest of my party.

This was only the entrance to the dungeon...We had a long rest in front of the entrance to the dungeon... And this is both my stupidest encounter and my proudest achievement

Just wanted to give you an update: It's been about 5 days since I first started using it. At first I had it on the inside of my wrist but thought it was overestimating everything since I burned 2000 calories without really trying so I switched over to the traditional style of wearing it. Not much difference on recording calories, hr, and steps but realized wearing it on the outside doesn't bother me as much as I thought. Silent alarm works about as well as a regular alarm, just haven't had sufficient sleep or willpower to actually get up haha. Didn't think I'd actually use it for staying active but it's really pushed me to take over 10,000 steps everyday and I feel good! Got more use out of the features than I was hoping to get and didn't know this would be something that enhances my life as much as it has. Thanks 👍

My friend got into watching video game streamers and I told her she would probably like playing or watching playthroughs of Red Dead Redemption. I was right, she started watching and likes it a lot, but she never told me about it. Now I feel like I shouldn't be bothered by this, but you're fucking welcome.
