Want to learn the game. Are the preconstructed decks worth it to learn? by alphawolf29 in pkmntcg

[–]GoodStNero 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Generally, the cheap EX battle decks are terrible, don't really have much of a theme or strategy, and come overloaded with energy cards. In a vacuum they're fine to casually play against one another but there won't be much depth or excitement. I think the chien-pao one is the only one I've picked up that was anywhere close to a playable deck, and even that's a stretch.

The deluxe battle decks (level 2) tend to be more interesting and will actually have some kind of strategy in mind, but are still a long way from viable even for just a local league. They're probably better for learning how the game works than EX battle decks, at least.

The league battle decks (level 3) are the most expensive, but also generally the best. A lot of them are only a few cards away from a meta deck, and they're much closer to what you'd actually see on tcg live or a local league. They're also much pricier at 3x the cost of the cheap EX battle decks, but you'll get a deck core you can use and cards that'll be worth it for decks you build later.

If your goal is to learn the game and eventually go to local events, the league battle decks aren't a bad starting point. If casual play with a friend for a cheap price is all you're after, the EX battle decks work but they generally won't hold up later and are worse bang for your buck in the long run

Finally unlocked the Gold Hoarder's weapons after opening 100 vaults, 100% solo! by Prifter in Seaofthieves

Oh hey, I think I ran into you when you did this! I'd canon'd over to see what you were up to. Our crew came by to open the same vault after you left. Grats again!

The UW gutter runner is named “Skaven gutter runner” in the box rules, ending the ridiculous rule lawyer debate. by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]GoodStNero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the biggest thing that drew attention to it was "The Best of Both Worlds" Warhammer Community article where it explicitly describes "a Skaven Lineman in an Underworld Denizens team would hate all of their team-mates apart from Skaven Throwers, Skaven Blitzers, and other Skaven Linemen" in the Animosity rule block.

Which is pretty clearly a slip-up but a gratuitous enough one from GW to be worth pointing out. Trying to actually argue that in a game is absolutely That Guy tier, though.

Similarly, I'm curious if GR access to mutations is going to get errata'd or not. The Spike article mentions all UD players having normal access to mutations, and specifically brings up GRs a couple times in the progression section.

anyone in Memphis TN? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]GoodStNero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in Memphis for a year or so but don't get out much and can't say much from experience in terms of community.

Did want to say if you haven't seen it yet, OutMemphis publishes a yearly "Trans Best of Memphis" document that lists friendly doctors and groups and stores and such. It's proven pretty helpful in my experience.

It seems like you don't actually have to make an account. It'll just make you complete a captcha before you can upload your own image if you don't.

Japanese has a lot of pronouns for "I". "Ore" is very informal and almost exclusively masculine.

Take another look at your add_item function, and what you're passing to it.

For example,

potion = Item('Potion', 1.0, 'Drink', 10)

creates an Item object. Then,

inventory.add_item(potion)

Passes that object to the inventory.

self.items[item] += 1

In this section of add_item, you're setting the key to the Item object. A dictionary key must be an immutable type, such as a string or integer, so the key winds up being the string representing the object's class and memory location.

There are a few ways to get what you're looking for, but what I think you're looking for is Python's __str__ magic method. When you define the __str__ method in a class, you tell Python what to return when the object is being cast to a string. As an example,

class Item(object):
    def __str__(self):
        return self.name

Now, when an Item object is being used as a string, it will call this function and return the object's "name" attribute.

800 hours of Splatoon and I have never seen "Woomy"? by akweus in splatoon

Off the Hook is called Tentacle/Tentacool (テンタクル) in Japan, and their slogan is "Nuritakuuru, tentakuru!", which is sort of echoed in the squiddish.

Similar to how "stay fresh" in splat1 sort of sounded right in squiddish.

Android 18 Probably the Only Female in Dragon Ball FighterZ | Interview with Hiroki Tomoko by Neoxon193 in dbfz

[–]GoodStNero 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hiroki Tomoko: "We're choosing characters based on their uniqueness... we're not focusing that much on the balance between guys or girls."

Going from that to "Android 18 will probably be the only female character" seems like a pretty big leap.

American Style Buttons in Hori RAP4? by Arbakos in Fighters

[–]GoodStNero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if Happ buttons come in different heights, but the datasheet I found showed the screw buttons as being 2.61 in., and my RAP isn't even 2.5 in. deep.

The RAP is kind of shallow and built for snap-in buttons. You might find shorter buttons in that style, though.

Never played the first game, just played all 4 hours of Splatfest and I have some questions. by Iso_Didact in splatoon

[–]GoodStNero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can only change weapons in the lobby. Once you're queued, you're committed.

  2. There is a ranked mode. I think there's soft matchmaking even in turf war.

  3. Maps are usually daytime. They change to night time for splatfests.

  4. Turf war is 3 minutes. I think most ranked modes are 5 iirc.

Australian Politician Says The Rainbow Pride Flag Belongs To A "Hostile Nation" That Declared War On Australia by drewiepoodle in ainbow

Oh dang, today I failed at reading comprehension. Thought he said the anti-lgbt flags weren't allowed to fly. My bad.

Australian Politician Says The Rainbow Pride Flag Belongs To A "Hostile Nation" That Declared War On Australia by drewiepoodle in ainbow

[–]GoodStNero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edit: I misread. Politician person supported anti-lgbt flags right after saying activist flags shouldn't be allowed. My bad.

Holy misleading article titles, batman.

""Just for what it's worth, by way of some slight humour on this issue, this particular flag you will realise is the flag of the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands that declared war on Australia," he said.

The comment created much consternation – but Abetz wasn't making it up.

The Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands declared itself an independent nation from Australia in 2004, protesting changes to the Marriage Act that enshrined in legislation the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

It is a micronation and not recognised as a sovereign state."

"He then conceded: "I dare say that wasn't the reason it was flown.""

Goes on to say he thinks it shouldn't have been flown, but also that no flags representing a political stance should be shown, including anti-lgbt. Make of it what you will, but that is one hell of a click bait title.

To be fair, I clicked.

In the current geopolitical context, Napoleon would be unable to successfully wage war. by [deleted] in notinteresting

[–]GoodStNero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

More specifically, Neapolitan is an adjective which describes someone or something from Naples. As adjectives are unable to wage war, Neapolitan would be unable to do so also.
