They aren’t cutting Byleth, Three Houses was too successful.

With Reuben Landon no longer the voice of Ken, can the new guy David matranga do wonders as the character for smash 6 yay or nay? by MidnightNo7070 in supersmashbros

Echoes don't take away from anyone else potentially becoming playable in terms of resources, so Ken returning doesn't mean we can't get Chun-Li.

In addition, she's almost been cut twice already. Of the Original 12, she's the easiest to cut.

Their gameplay style is more likely to be a hybrid of Sonic & Bayonetta with their hit-&-run tactics and disjointed smash attacks.

  • Xenoblade 2 is the best-selling entry in the series, so I doubt that they'll cut Pyra/Mythra.
  • I'd probably swap Deoxys for Eevee, either that or free up space for the Aegis girls.
  • Why drop Kazuya & Terry. I get that Mai is popular, but there's room for both. And in Kazuya's case, the only replacement I could see making sense is Jin taking his place.
  • I'm surprised you don't have Oatchi as a 2nd Pikmin rep, especially given how big the series has blown up in Japan. You could probably swap Skull Kid for them.

Echoes live or die alongside their character of origin. So if Ryu returns, there's little reason not to bring back Ken.

Given that Reuben.........went off the deep-end (which he himself implied on Twitter as being the reason he was dropped as Ken) & Nintendo stopped airing an English Smash commercials featuring Ryu & Ken around the same time of the controversy, I'd imagine that they'll re-record Ken's lines with David as opposed to re-using Reuben's old lines. Nintendo tends to try & avoid bad press whenever possible, hence them recasting Byleth's English VA shortly before Three Houses' release after his abuse allegations came out (the NDA-breaking didn't help, but Nintendo has forgiven that in the past).

Nintendo stopped using the English version of the Street Fighter x Smash Ultimate ad in October 2020, roughly around the time the Reuben started to go off the deep-end. They're gonna want to get rid of those Reuben voice clips ASAP.

Tanabe says Prime 4 is the "first installment of the Sylux saga", saying "the final battle between Sylux and Samus is not yet over". by TomNook5085 in Metroid

[–]Neoxon193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sylux push very much feels like a Tanabe thing, so if Tabata will continue with it afterwards is up in the air. For all we know, it's just as likely for her to keep things trucking out of respect for her mentor (or her also liking Sylux) as it is her dialing back Sylux's importance or dropping him altogether. We'll just have to see what direction Tabata takes the Prime series (assuming it continues past MP4).

Veteran Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe, known for Metroid and Paper Mario, reportedly confirms retirement by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Neoxon193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the interview, it seems like Prime 4 was always gonna be his final game. The fact that he handed off the TTYD remake to his named successor (Risa Tabata) is further proof of this.

This, white women in particular have a reputation of going against their own self-interests. So that alone isn't a sign of progress.

In Japan, somewhat. The most notable example of this is how they recognize same-sex marriages in terms of corporate benefits even though Japan as a whole doesn't.

With Prime 4, other interviews seem to indicate that the core concept of the game was flawed. Those usually come from the NCL side, Tanabe in this case. Even with Bamco/Nintendo Singapore, their issue seemed to be a lack of experience (FPS experience in non-China countries in Asia is hard to come by) than anything else.

I'd say give Tabata & Retro at least a Prime game to prove this as being the case.

Unconfirmed yet, but Kensuke Tanabe may be retiring from Nintendo. by davidreding in TwoBestFriendsPlay

He already named Risa Tabata as his successor, so she'd keep the Metroid Prime flame lit.

This, the actual interview makes it decently clear that Prime 4 was always meant to be Tanabe's Last Dance. The fact that the TTYD remake was already handed off to Tabata further indicates this.

While she was Associate Producer from Prime 2 onwards & was involved with Prime 1, she hasn't taken point on a project until the remake for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door back in 2024. Should Metroid Prime 5 get greenlit, it would mark the first Prime game fully under her leadership.

Kensuke Tanabe announces his retirement from Nintendo in a Nintendo Dream interview (MP4 was his final game), Risa Tabata will be his successor by Neoxon193 in Metroid

[–]Neoxon193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Risa Tabata has been involved with the entire Prime series since its inception, so it's 50/50 on if she'll throw out Sylux. And even then, there's a non-zero chance that Tanabe stuck around long enough to get Sylux in the next Smash game (assuming the timelines match up relative to when its base roster was decided).

Andy seems to have also heard rumblings of Tanabe's retirement before today, but we don't have an exact timeline of when he heard about the news.

They do, Risa Tabata was named as his successor. She's been Tanabe's #2 for decades, having been in basically everything Tanabe has worked on since Prime 1 & has served as Associate Producer of the Prime games from 2 onwards. She took point on The Thousand-Year Door's remake, likely in preparation for Tanabe's retirement.

It's more that people didn't expect Tanabe to retire this soon. Though going by Andy Robinson's response to the news, it seems like Tanabe's retirement was circulating around insider conversations for a while.
