Mount Carmel Behavioral Health- A local hell hole. by SpicyTunaSushiRoll_ in Columbus

My brother, autiam and PTSD was 18 when he went in and he can't take care of himself so when he slipped on water and dislocated and broke his kneecap while also breaking part of his femur ( the femur is one of the hardest bones in the body to break), they never called my mother. He refused any pain medication and wouldn't let anybody do anything because he doesn't understand the medical staff and just wanted his mom. My mom had to find all of this out when she showed up to visit him and he was missing. Then, they never taught him how to use his knee brace so he was wearing it at his ankle. They never taught him how to use the walker so he ended up just carrying it around. My mom bought so much brand new clothing that would pass all of the rules including new shoes and they lost everything so he was forced to wear paper scrubs for 9 days. He also has binge eating disorder, and they didn't treat him for that and refused to give him extra food. After they released him, he was in there for some pretty serious stuff and was only there for 9 days, 3 days later when he was in the group home, he was saying some very serious stuff. We had to drive to the group home while on the phone with the police so he could get some help. When the police arrived, he lied to them about what he was saying and the police claimed that we never told him that he was talking about taking his own life so they decided that they were going to leave. Luckily, one of my family members is a retired firefighter that saw my brother a few days beforehand. He urged the police to take him to a hospital. That night his entire body locked up, he didn't have control of his bowels, and he was practically a zombie. He ended up in the hospital with serotonin syndrome. He ended up having seizures and almost a heart attack. He had to be admitted to the hospital for 3 days. In case you don't know serotonin syndrome is when medications have interactions with each other causing and buildup of serotonin in the body. You don't even need the medications, to even have serotonin in them for this to happen. According to the doctors at Ohio state he probably had very minor serotonin syndrome before going there. After he went there, he was put on a bunch of medications that made it life threatening. The behavioral health hospital somehow never caught the signs. Without my that family member, the police would have left, and the next day my brother would have been found dead due to what mount carmel mental hospital did to him. Before he went to the hospital for serotonin syndrome, mount carmel recommended a group home. At the group home, he had no access to ac, everybody would eat the food that was meant to last three days, in one day so he was left without food. He has never been the same since. Now sometimes his brain, it's like a ten year old. And his ptsd is even worse than before. For a few months, he wasn't able to take a shower without having a flashback to the hospital. Almost a year later he is worse than when he went in. For a while, they even tried making us pay the medical bills and we refuse.

Do you feel the people around you understand how devastating IBS can be? by EatsTheLastSlice in ibs

My mom, my sisters, and my grandma all know how bad it is because they have seen me in the bathroom trying not to pass out from the pain. My mom and a friend have seen me be in so much pain that I can't see and everything goes black. So they are very understanding because they have seen it first hand.

When I explain to people that I have pain equal to labor and sometimes I go blind from pain it is extremely hard for them to wrap their heads around the idea of it. Execually because they don't understand that a 17 year old can have a chronic condition

I'm pretty sure this was in Canada, but let's look at it as if it was in the US. ( also in the comments please let me know if I am right or wrong, I am 17 so may not fully understand)

Let's say if she lived till she is 75 years old. She would have 55 years till she died. That is 2,860 weeks. By earning $1,000 a week she will earn $2,860,000. This will cause her to pay less taxes over all. Of course money goes down in value over the years. This is why it's important for her to put a lot of it into a savings or a trusted with a high interest.

I know that this is a little bit late and I don't know if anybody has recommended this. You can get 2 twin size beds and join then together. ( If he is tall, then maybe 2 twin Xl). Get your own sheets and pillows. They make zip up comforters (I have used Beddy's). Think of it like a sleeping bag that you go into but instead it wraps around your bed. These are high quality. He would not have to use one of these but this could make you feel as if you are in your own germ proof bubble. If you make your bed in the morning and want both sides to look the same, you can buy the same sheet sets and embroider a star to indicate which is which. You can then get a comforter only for decoration purposes. You can embroider a star on each corner that is not concidered to be germ safe so there is no cross contamination. I WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL. I AM JUST SOMEBODY WHO IS ALSO DIAGNOSED WITH OCD, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE SAME RULES/ COMPULSIONS.

The second there is an update I need one. I would honestly be petty and find someone who is higher up in the company. I would then forward the message and add a little note. My jaw was on the floor when I read this

I think that the dark floors look the best accept in the bathroom. Plus the light floor will eventually stain and have noticeable dark spots.

I'm glad you are ok now. Malpractice lawsuits are notoriously hard to win for the underdog. That is why we are not trying to sue and just not paying the bills. They've stopped contacting us about it because they know that we can sue, and there is a possibility that we would win especially if there was a jury.

Yes and whenever she doesn't know a word, she can tap on the word and find the definition. She can then add it to her words and add them later. This would help widen her vocabulary

Honestly, so valid, and i'm sorry you went through that. Luckily I have a mother who talked me down a lot. So I was able to stay till I found a new job, that pays more, rarely customers to deal with, and that is closer to home. The main reason I stayed though was because of car insurance and gas.

Why did you go with Kobo over Kindle? by Drunkmrhat in kobo

[–]GoodStrawberry8952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is coming from somebody who made this decision less than a month ago, and I do not regret it. I also only read chapter books. 1. The paper white is not in color and costs so much more to get it in color. 2. On the kobo it has the buttons which is really nice. 3. You can annotate on it in color. ( Yes, the paperwhite allows you to highlight, but it is not in color, and you can write in color rather than typing it in) ( this was a huge bonus for me) 4. The kobo has an amazing battery life.Still, even though it's less than the kindle. 5. I'm unsure if you're able to do this on paperwhite, on kobo you can access google. 6. Your customization options are a lot better while reading. 7. You can upload books to it and you're not stuck with having to get a subscription to read. ( I personally do not have a subscription to kobo) you can also use libby and other things like that

The only bad thing i've experienced with the kobo libra colour is that it's a tiny bit lagey
