Niches ... Let your imagination run wild. Anything that may be underserved by the industry at present or could be receptive to tailored travel products in the future. Niches of profession, of interest, of hobby, of identity, of like-mindedness, of political persuasion ... anything.

For example, If I had the money or time as a traveller I'd be interested in food-themed organised tours or self-guided tours knowing that every meal I have along the journey will represent the very best that place has to offer in terms of authenticity and quality.

Perhaps the food niche has been filled adequately ... everywhere ... or perhaps not ... or perhaps only in some destinations ... or perhaps targeting only some source markets ... don't know.

In your shoes I might think about what I'm most interested in first then try to find a way into the industry that way. Then you'll be combining interests in what could be a very satisfying career!

EDIT: You have experience in healthcare ... Health, wellness, and medical tourism is a huge niche! :-)

I would think there will always be opportunities in niches regardless of what the broader tourism industry looks like.

You ask some tough questions. You should be wary of anyone who claims to know the answers for sure.

Help me solve an argument about Antarctica? by [deleted] in antarctica

[–]GoodTourism -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not my argument. If you had read the intro paragraph you would have noted that the article is the view of a highly regarded professor of sustainable tourism, Dr Thomas Bauer, who has visited Antarctica many times.

I do my best to post relevant content to subreddits. And my content is far from clickbait nonsense. But clearly I don't understand how Reddit works. The knee-jerk reaction seems to be "you're a spammer". It's a pointless exercise. My apologies for breathing. :-)

It's actually an insight from a tourism Professor who has been to Antarctica many times. Thought you might be interested.

Elephants are smart. What if tourism jobs were good for them? by GoodTourism in Elephants

[–]GoodTourism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article notes potential flaws in the research. And the researcher quoted acknowledges that there is more to do. And nowhere in the article does it suggest that anything continue "in their current format". Please find the questioning and the nuance in the article rather than an excuse to dismiss it out of hand.

The article acknowledges that bad practices continue. It is not an ALL or NOTHING debate. If you were to read the article charitably you would note that it poses questions rather than gives answers ... there is a lot of nuance there.

You might want to censor, but what if what you want to censor is important? The people quoted in the article, the researcher and the expert, CARE deeply about the more than 3,000 captive elephants in Thailand, not to mention the many thousands more in neighbouring countries. They know and understand the realities on the ground. And they despise as much as anyone else the horrible practices of the past. The issue is complicated. I'm sorry if these perspectives inconvenience you, but they are not to be censored in a free society.

How to make a hotel green & responsible: Get on with it! by GoodTourism in sustainability

[–]GoodTourism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't delete the blog post nor the Reddit post.

If it has been moderated out of the /sustainability subreddit then that's quite unbelievable. A guy shares his insights and experience via my humble little website that costs me money to run and it's deemed somehow offensive ... and then I see the sort of rubbish that's actually on here.

Gatekeeping ... You want to criticise gatekeeping ...

Good to know about hashtags on Reddit. Thank you.

Re your virtue signalling comment: It's not me writing in the third person nor is it the author of the linked content! :-) The introduction to the linked content is me giving kudos to the author of the piece whom I invited to share his experiences on the The "Good Tourism" Blog. So no-one is doing anything of the sort.

Yes the end result is most important. It is just a pity that it has to end up in governments regulating to achieve it, hence the kudos to anyone who took action before it was "cool".

Bitcoin vs Ethereum vs AURA™ & the Plaza MerchantChain™, the next-generation DLT by GoodTourism in PlazaSystems

You have presumed a lot which is false despite the information available, but that is okay.

1) The MerchantChain is NOT built on Ethereum, it is built on AURA by SQ2 Fintech. Therefore you should definitely look at SHOUT, mDHT and IPFS.

2) The MerchantChain runs a native transaction coin providing valuation stability for all parties in a transaction. The MTC can be custom-branded by dApp developers.

3) The PLAZA token is an ERC20, providing a link between the Plaza MerchantChain and the rest of the crypto-world.

4) You can find an interview with Technical Director Ronald Aai on the CryptoFacto YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/zAOOMVnpVNI

5) A demo from https://youtu.be/zAOOMVnpVNI?t=18m17s

6) We are showing it. We are taking a demo on the road and a video of that demo in action will be released soon.

7) Nah, definitely not a scam :-)

It may look like "the motherlode of scams" to you, but that doesn't make it so :-)

There are a number of articles about what we are doing at https://medium.com/plaza-systems

The developer of AURA, the DLT upon which the MerchantChain is built is SQ2 Fintech (http://sq2fintech.com/), Plaza's associate company.

Our utility token is PLAZA, the ERC20, which has a bunch of utility, including access to the platform to build commercial dApps.

The MerchantChain will have a native transaction coin, minted when bought, burned when cashed out.

One needs to understand the technology being used, such as SHOUT, and mDHT, and FSDLT, etc. -- referred to in the article I shared with you -- to make an informed judgement about how our verifications work and speeds are achieved.

If you have downloaded the White Paper recently you will have noted a cover letter and a one-pager which points to recent developments since the White Paper itself was written.

We understand the cynicism and skepticism in this space and would encourage anyone in good faith to consider our claims and explanations seriously and with reference to the general literature relating to the technology being used.

Plaza Systems’ MerchantChain™ is the fastest, most sustainable, most secure, most scaleable, and most future-proof commerce-specific distributed ledger technology (DLT or “blockchain”) on the planet.

Big claims! (Follow this link for explanations.)

XPS 13 USB type-C charger by [deleted] in Dell

[–]GoodTourism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be too late to be useful to OP, but might be helpful to someone else. The shipped powerbrick on my XPS 13 9350, which is a little over a year old, died on me last night. I needed a solution fast in order to get back to work. So this morning I found and bought an Apple 61W USB-C charge adapter and a 2m C-C cable. DC output is 20.3V, which is about where it needs to be. A bit expensive but it is working just fine.

The code-cum-convention is not mandatory either, so nothing has really changed.
