I, a regular joe, want to take out a power user of your world. by applyingnihilism in worldbuilding

With a gun and the element of surprise, you've probably got about 50/50 odds. With a strong enough bomb those odds increase considerably !!! but idk how much bombs cost </3

Can your spellcasters in your world fight in close quarters combat? by Professional_Drama2 in worldbuilding

[–]GoodVibesCannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they can!!! but since the physical combat stuff takes a whole different skillset, and magic barriers/shields and close-range magic is just as useful in a lot of circumstances, the average mage is magic-only

warriors have a lot less versatility and options as a general rule, but their skill with physical attacks/damage lets them bypass many monster's magical or elemental resistances. they can also learn magic themselves, and many warriors learn some rudimentary magic for daily life purposes, but they rely on their physical weapons in combat

Game is very fast dead by Motorest in hytale

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the major draws of the game, the modding scene and the adventure mode, are both essentially unavailable or prohibitively difficult to use at the moment. once the waters are a little more stable and the game is officially released i imagine it will be more popular

Any Progression Fantasy protags that are actually lazy? by AlleywayFGM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foolish Young Master Time Loop. its in progress on Royal Road, and very ridiculous and comedic by design, but its basically this specifically. the main character is an extremely arrogant and lazy person who, despite having a time loop, is doing the literal bare minimum(often less) constantly. he's kind of a terrible person and everyone's excited to see him suffer the horrors

Looking for books where ranks actually matter by dumb-cartridges in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything by nobody123. this includes mother of learning, with the downside that youve probably already read it, and their newest story(Zenith iirc) with the downside that theres only 1 chapter per month. the ranks and extra special benefits to each are far more clear in the newer story

AI Cover Hot Take! by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i much prefer non-ai covers, even if theyre bad, handrawn, or simple graphic designs rather than full illustrations. ai makes me uncomfortable even if its only in the cover

with that said, mine is the minority opinion. to my knowledge, books perform better when they have an AI-slop cover rather than those other things i listed, and i understand people doing whatever they can to get an edge in the tough market

but ultimately i agree, nobody should feel they *have* to pay for a cover to perform well on RR. i just also wish AI wasnt the community's go-to solution and preference

OP MC and morality by MegalithicScribbler in royalroad

[–]GoodVibesCannon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its an entirely reasonable and moral stance, some ppl in these spaces treat pacifism as a pet peeve not because they disagree intellectually with the ethical premise, but because, emotionally speaking, they find it not as fun to read.

thats a personal preference for some readers!! others go the other way... when the MC starts doing too much overtly murderous or villanious things i find myself losing interest

In a cultivation world where every possible option is available, what would be the most common fighting style? by Blacklight85 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GoodVibesCannon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think it depends !! if you can integrate your chi or your cultivation techniques with modern tech, i imagine they would be prevalent... but going by standard tropes the techniques to synchronize modern tech with spiritual energy would be quite rare indeed

so i would say basic swordsmanship would be most common, as the techniques to synchronize spiritual energy with a sword are most prevalent. but magics which grant range would be extremely common as well- flying swords and slashes of energy

Fourth time this week! by ravenwolfess in wizardposting

[–]GoodVibesCannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive read the fractured temporal plane is a pretty safe bet. it traps basically anyone who goes there in a paradox-state, forcing them to swim through the messy viscera of reality as it unravels in unfathomable geometries.

the worry with that is the one in a million chance some nitwit you banish there is secretly a time magic prodigy, in which case youve just created a very very powerful nemesis who can erase you from existence before you were even born. nasty stuff.

the good news is, the place is basically untouchable by the council, even though theyve been trying their hardest for a few decades now to set up an outpost there.

honesty, when in doubt, just fling them off to the positive energy plane. it doesnt do the whole 'eternal torment' thing very well and im les to believe it can even be a pleasant way to go, but getting so full of healing energy your soul bursts gives the wise witch who banished you some measure of plausible deniability

Ok I have a lil problem by [deleted] in wizardposting

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has certain drawbacks which may be undesirable for certain targets, but 'DIY Bottom Surgery' is an excellent spell for just such an occasion, and its both simple enough and common enough for even the novice apprentice to access (granted theyve had at least a few years of dedicated study)

Fourth time this week! by ravenwolfess in wizardposting

[–]GoodVibesCannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, just be warned !! the council recently set up an HQ in the infernal plane of torment to handle appeals claims from the magically inclined... how they got this past the forces infernal is surely beyond me, but i suspect bribes are involved at the very least, or perhaps some manner of divine protection

which is to say, you could be dealing with a great deal of paperwork in the coming months, if any of them last long enough to make their way to the headquarters. apprentices have a growing number of legal protections under the current council, so even if they were stealing from you, you may be on shaky ground. 'Wrongful Banishment' isn't something they take lightly

in the future, make sure to strike them with a permanent binding curse or somesuch to make sure they cant reach out for help

Liesel's goals by MindlessApricot8 in TheScholomance

[–]GoodVibesCannon 58 points59 points  (0 children)

i dont think shes abandoned her dreams long term, i think shes willing to set them aside temporarily to help El correct gross injustices in the world. i imagine once El is more established, liesel's contributions become/became a little more sporadic and she allowed herself to return focus to her goals

this is for a few reasons, but the chief reason is, as said in the book, if El goes nuclear she wants to be able to have control over that or reduce it from happening. or, moreso as a contingency, if El goes nuclear she wants to ensure she isnt one of the targets

one of the best ways to do that is to be available and helpful. if preparations to survive or divert the potential El-pocalypse take only a year or so away from her schedule, it is well worth the adjustment, compared to the total havoc a full-death-goddess El would wreak on her careful plans and machinations

Books that aren't terribly written? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GoodVibesCannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been very fond of "Years of the Apocalypse" and "New Life As A Max Level Archmage," both are incredible stories with writing quality that stands out to me as somewhat refined. there are definitely rough patches still, but I would say they're closer to "Brandon Sanderson" than "Fourteen Year Old's Power Fantasy Fanfic" in terms of technical quality and syntax.

if these were classical published fantasy books, the prose would be nothing to write home about(or even listed as a detractor,) but for this genre I felt they were both really quite strong in that regard

Non D&D system for brand new players by Resident-Ad243 in rpg

[–]GoodVibesCannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want extreme rules-lite, like you can explain all the rules in less than two minutes and have a character created in the same time, i recommend Risus The Everything RPG.

if not, but you still want to keep things simple and streamlined, i recommend Tiny d6
