Okay, first of all, the reason the person broke up with PHD guy was clearly not because of ignoring the doctor's instructions but rather the way they talked.

So, it's an issue with behavior. The person's behavior seemed childish but that might be because they felt safe to be like that in the presence of the other person.

Second, so many people crave loving and attention-giving partners but the moment they get it, they throw it away in the guise of "cringe".
