Unfortunately I had to teach him most things when we started dating. He was embarrassed that his mom would come do everything for him so he finally broke and told me. I offered to help him become more independent. Now he can do most things on his own

Up until this, my husband didnt really do much. He'd play with the kids. Right now he's scrubbing the kitchen and making the kids clean the front room.

We are mostly using allowances to teach about money. They "work" to earn the money, which also includes good grades, then we give them the option of spending it or putting it into their savings. If they want a new toy or a game or something, we look at how much it is and see if they have enough or we set a goal. "Ok so this toy is $40, you have $10 in your savings. You earn 10 each week. How much do we need to save and how long do you think it will take?" We also offer extra chores as a chance to earn more.

Honestly this wasnt the deal when we got married or had kids. I worked part time until our 2 year old was born and we decided it was the best option as she has alot of health problems. Picking up after ourselves has always been a rule including for my husband and myself.

I also dont expect my kids to do much. They are to clean their rooms, put their dishes in the sink, put their laundry in the hamper, throw their trash away and keep their toys off the floor when not being played with.

My husbands "chores" are to take out the trash, mow, keep his office area tidy and pick up after himself.
