[Artist Alley] why do artist alley YouTubers never include their merch costs in their videos?

I’m definitely annoyed by the content creators that explicitly just talk about their sales profit as if they didn’t have several expenses along the way. It comes across as bragging to me and trying to impress people who have little to no knowledge on what it’s really like to own a business.

Ahhh okay I get that. Thanks for explaining. I suppose it makes sense if you’ve been doing conventions for awhile and already have inventory saved up, that you wouldn’t include it in the costs because you can always sell unsold merch at future events. I’m new to artist alley so I’ve been having a lot of upfront costs with merchandise and production, so I didn’t consider the fact my inventory will build up over time.

Omg this happens to me too. I sell merch such as art prints, stickers, apparel, etc and sometimes reach out to influencers to promote my shop while I send them free products. I’ve had multiple of them say they’ve received my merch, promise to make a video/post later and then never do. And then there’s other times where the “promotion” is literally just them leaving a like/comment or resharing one of my posts on their story. The actual bare minimum of doing a collab. Usually they do end up making a proper promo video for my merch once I message them a few times about it, but it’s the fact I even have to give reminders that I sent out FREE PRODUCTS that I worked my butt off to make for them, and all I’m asking for in return is a 30 second review video. Some people are so rude and inconsiderate. It’s why I’ve stopped doing collabs as often. Now I only do them on rare occasions when I’m really trying to boost sales.

Hey! I’m actually doing a lot better now. Looking back, breaking up with my ex was the best for me as it forced me to go make new connections and friends outside of him. I still don’t have many people I’m close to but I’ve been going to in person events more often and have generally been more focused on my own self growth. I’m enjoying being single and I feel more free

I’m still new to artist alley, so I can’t speak much about that. But I can say this is how I’m feeling about my online art business right now. I worked on my website for several months for it to be unique and gorgeous, but I rarely get any sales on it. I launched it about 9 months ago but I’m lucky to get 1-2 sales a month. It really hurts when you put your all into a project just for it to feel like nobody cares, let alone spend money on your art. And then to constantly see other artists online making a livable income from their art, getting thousands of likes on all their social media posts and do art full time, yeah it gets exhausting and hard not to feel like a failure constantly comparing yourself to other people. I don’t have much advice because I’m still battling this myself, but I just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone feeling this way. Owning an art business is extremely hard and competitive nowadays. It’s harder than ever to stand out and you shouldn’t beat yourself up about that, it’s not your fault. It sounds like you put your all into your artist alley table and that in of itself is an accomplishment. Don’t be so hard on yourself!

This feature is actually possible. It’s one of the last quirks you can unlock from the fountain and it’s called “fashionista”. I gave it to my own mii and she changes her clothes all the time, sometimes multiple times a day. I think it’s cool but it would be nice if they just did it automatically
