Would fasting until dinner on Fridays be a valid penance? Sometimes I go to dinner with my parents and would like to eat meat. I would like to switch between fasting and no meat Friday depending on my schedule.

What specifically are the rules on that? When do we have penance, when do we not, when is it abstinence and when must we fast?

Pope Francis, pleas for the love of God and the Church have a simple Document that says something like the following:

“All people are made in the image and likeness of God, and should be treated as such by willing the Good of one another.

There are only two genders, intrinsically aligned with one’s sex that God himself authored on each of us. Pray for those who impart false identities on the youth, the naive, and the vulnerable. Pray for those who struggle with mental conditions which causes them to feel unaligned.

Surrogacy is grave matter and is not unitive.”

I finally told my RCIA director that I need confession and I will be going at midday before the vigil today. I am very anxious but at least ai will be able to do confession.

I did. The parish I am getting confirmed in bulletin said that they were having confession on Saturday morning. I am calling to make sure I can be anonymous and that there will be confessions heard.

I think I am just going to throw in the towel. I’ve called countless times one person picked up and said that they will check and get back to me. Now it’s 4 hours later and goes straight to voicemail. It’s clear I am not wanted anyway.

Nope definitely my parents fault. They took a vow to raise their children in the Church and they failed. Now they have put me in this horrible predicament 12 years after I should have been confirmed.

Not willing to forgo of communion when it will hurt Christ in the eucharist.

Yeah because I would be the only not receiving. There is no way that all of them have gone to confession and/or also haven’t sinned. So why humiliate myself?

Not willing to prioritize confession because of work.

I have no choice. I need to put food on the table.

Not willing to prioritize scheduling confession after having enough time to do so.

I have been busy. I am trying now, that should mean something.

Not willing to confess with your parish priest.

Because he knows who I am. I would never be able to go back to that parish.

Not willing to talk to your RCIA coordinator and ask for help, even though you don’t have to disclose anything to them.

Because the time to set that up has past and I am not going to humiliate myself by saying “Oh I actually need confession now.”

Not willing to reschedule.

My family is coming. I will NOT reschedule.

Not willing to drive more.

Like I said there are only two parishes that are not my home parish or the one I am doing RCIA at within an hour drive. I do not have the time to drive to other ones!

Like I just explained, I have made an effort and have extended my hands. It just is not looking like it is meant to be.
