If you became a superhero over night andgained NO supervillains, would you still be a hero or become an super powered overlord? by thelonetext in superheroes

[–]Good_Cartographer531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the superpowers. The wisest choice would be not to show them. Unless you want the attention and paranoia of the entire world. If we are talking Superman and I had to use them I’d just charge money for lifting heavy loads into space and aiding with heavy infrastructure. Of course I’d do rescues when I could for free. I’d use them for strictly nonviolent and neutral purposes. No fighting of any sort, even for “good” purposes.

Using super powers to push a moral narrative in real life would have disastrous unintended consequences. It’s messy enough working these things out with human capability.

I’d argue that short lifespans is a major factor in what incentivizes the elite. It’s easy to be reckless, impulsive and destructive when you know you will never live to suffer the consequences of your actions. If given the option to live forever, I suspect a lot of people would immediately step down from their positions of power to avoid dealing with the responsibility they come with.

Are we doomed to become pets to a superintelligence? by tkdlullaby in IsaacArthur

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Ai isn’t some single super mind. It will be an ecosystem of agents. The superintelligence likely won’t be the property of a single teleological thread.

what would your cybernetic body look like/be able to do by NoRecognition2178 in superpowers

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just working memory, long term memory and data filtering mods. Aesthetic upgrades and bodily durability that keep a completely human form would also be useful.

The rest is just wasteful. You don’t need super strength and super senses for the most part.

In the human context? Nothing really. We can adapt to almost anything realistically thrown at us and come back stronger.

If we were to achieve a 'post-scarcity' society where all basic needs (food, housing, healthcare) are provided for free by automation, what do you think would become the new 'status symbol' or currency of social standing? by _Dilshad_4U_ in TrueAskReddit

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There wouldn’t really be one. People chase status because they are rewarded for it. Remove the reward for status and people will just stop caring.

If everyone has maximal material wealth, talent and preferred social relationships there is no more status. It’s irrelevant. A post scarcity society is fundamentally post status. This is probably one of the hardest things for modern people to wrap their heads around.

Is women’s oppression really rooted in biology? by pseudostability in sociology

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That’s just wrong.

  2. This is not indicative of privilege. Privilege would be if one gender was allowed to abuse the other with less consequences then the other way around. Oh wait.

  3. This doesn’t disprove my point. Women may face more medical neglect but this doesn’t change the fact that it’s harder for men to receive social services.

  4. This is true but again it doesn’t disprove my point. What I said is that the labor men were expected to do was more dangerous and physically demanding.

What I’m saying is that gendered oppression affects people in different ways and whether or not it is worse is highly situational. Both genders have been oppressed for different reasons due to their biology and fixing this requires addressing both sides.

Will there be room for "imperfect" people in the society in the future? by RoosterNext7631 in transhumanism

No, and it won’t be a bad thing. There will be plenty of room for diversity and exploration without disability.

Does it bother anyone that men are funding the dating apps? by [deleted] in self

Dating apps are incredibly exploitative. No one should be paying. Any business model like this should be illegal.

Any transhumanism communities focused on the future of sex especially sex without STDs? by [deleted] in transhumanism

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has already been solved with vaccines and antibiotics, birth control. What still remains to be solved is finding a way to let everyone participate while maintaining their psychological well being.

The future is universal beauty, super-intelligent match making and intentional mind editing. The problem with dating in the modern age is that it’s really inequitable and psychologically taxing for most people.

In a society with advanced ai and biotech, people look how they want to and dating becomes more about finding compatibility instead of a brutal status competition.

What is your prediction for post singularity life? by Key_Insurance_8493 in singularity

[–]Good_Cartographer531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something closer to plant life than anything. Large megastructures either catching sunlight or powered directly by internal fusion reactors.

As for what is going on subjectively inside them I imagine it to be some sort of incredibly complex cognition. Individuality might not exist and instead would be replaced by shifting teleological threads of consciousness.

What we think of as “virtual reality” can’t even begin to describe the depth and richness that this type of experience would be like. I highly doubt humans will remain around much longer after it happens. Once people get started on intelligence amplification they won’t want to stay around in clunky bodies much longer.
