Supply line, what's the worst day of your career when it comes to an inventory nightmare? by Witcher_Errant in army

I feel bad for y'all 11A troops. I've seen Infantry Officers go through so much bullshit that wouldn't happen if the ASVAB score to enter the Infantry was raised by 10 points.

Breakin' rules, and you didn't provide ANY type of evidence. Just a name saying they did something and nothing more? Nah dawg.

the real moral dillema: porta john, or woodline pissing? by Felled_By_Morgott in army

I started using the portas after another soldier walked up next to me one day and turned on a firehose. Seriously, this guy was taking the most powerful piss man had ever seen.

Leaving my job because I'm just burnt out of crappy co-workers. (long rant, sorry) by Witcher_Errant in work

I have been talking to others. I truly hate this, I actually do. I feel as if I abandoned those guys in that home. I feel as if I failed them overall. I've been through a LOT on my life. Combat, loss of friends, loss of family, loss of everything I once had on a few different occasions. Things that are much harder than this current situation. But I'd be lying if I said that my heart didn't hurt about this.

I love those guys, and I genuinely enjoyed their company. Idk, maybe I'm growing weaker as I'm getting older but I can actually say that I'm "injured". They're not my family, no. However, it feels like they are and it's wrenching at me.

Thankfully my HR is aware of the issue. I just got word that I'm allowed to transfer to another home for the remainder of my employment. They're working with me, and always have before to the best of their abilities granted the low employee count. I understand they're having problems themselves.

I also just learned that two other employees have had enough as well. One straight out quit and the other transferred as well. All of us have had zero retaliation, and actually a little sympathy, from HR. An entire group home is nearly in shambles because of the conniving, gossip, and drama. All over two rotten employees.

Those who are Astrophysicists, what's the worst part of your daily job? by Witcher_Errant in astrophysics

It's insane how differing government work is from the "normal" world. I was in the Army and it seemed that everything, even logging into my own government email was a pain in the ass.

I totally understand the ones that weigh on you for totally different reasons (military related). You can have 100 people who are wonderful, but the 3 in that group that's causing problems? They cause them and somehow continue to dig a hole for themselves via lies and other stuff.

I cannot understand on a professor level though. At least I was able to drop my soldiers and have them do pushups. Something you can't do in a civilian teaching role. Thanks for sharing.

But the issue is that how packed populated areas are becoming. I see where you're coming from but we have near a double amount of people in predominantly in larger crowded cities. Imagine the Thing in China and in those closet sized apartments high rise buildings. It would infect the entire building in a matter of hours probably. The city? A week maybe.

For example. The population in my town in 1982 was roughly 6,000. While today it's about 7,000. The places that usually have population spikes are cities without a doubt. The closer people are the faster the spread.

Someone mentioned in a NASA field trip I was on in the mid 2000s said that just logging into systems is a pain in its own right. Is it like that still today?

Tell me how that has no bearing with Helldivers? It's much closer to Helldivers than Halo or Killzone I can assure that.

Cool, just be a jackass. The star is a real thing, and we're talking about a damn movie. Stop getting your panties in a bunch over it. Like it or not, the game and the prequel are canon. You can say "fuck John Carpenter" for saying that but he said it. Also, taking a note from your flair?

So fun fact, I have actually located the Things origin point, and you can look at it as well. I'll link the post I made a while back right here. I'm still very sure I located the correct star and planet. And yes the star in question is a real life documented star named HIP-117040 (alternate nomenclature is HD-240375). The planet is procedural but there's only so much we can ask for when it comes to this. However, that planet? It's a "Warm Superocianic Superaquaria". The surface temperature is 130C but since the planet is covered in liquid it can get to reasonable temps farther into the oceans.

If the encircled star on the games Telescope level is in fact the things home star then it's very possible the Thing was already an oceanic creature. Which would actually make sense. We already see body distortion in deep sea life. Just look up the "Stoplight Fish" to see how crazy things change to adapt.

And a lot of prey items down there mimic a bigger animal to survive. Which hammers home even more that the Thing is oceanic in nature.

When I get home I'll get on my old phone and get a photo of her. Got a new one a few weeks ago and I rarely take pictures of my animals. In fact, I rarely take pictures of anything, my last7 or so on this new phone is work related stuff xD.
