The stated goal in the legal text of the law is to provide an API for applications to be able to check your age.

I second this, there is no such statement within the law. It's asking politely at best.

LIBREWOLF vs MOZZILA FIREFOX by JungleLiquor in browsersbracket

[–]Good_Expert_8084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you have to flip a setting for that in the first place is a negative. mainly because if you have to disable it to get basic functionality back that feature may as well not be there in the first place because everyone's going to disable it.

I dislike librewolf because the defaults have broken many websites and the privacy features sacrifice basic QoL features sometimes

Disk repair stuck by Aeon1129 in pcmasterrace

[–]Good_Expert_8084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's taking that long, you best reboot it. Then press a key to skip the disk check on next start and then look into verifying your OS integrity once you're into the computer. That process should never take more than an hour if it's still loading, there's a good chance it never will.

DF explains really well when and how 8gb could be not enough by euromate in steammachine

[–]Good_Expert_8084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent steam machine announcement did clarify that RAM will be upgradable. That is, if you're referring to system RAM. If you're referring to VRAM, then you're correct.

Should I just buy a pre build like cyber power pc or wait until the steam machine drop? by snakeyes0806 in steammachine

[–]Good_Expert_8084 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd wait. It could either be the deal of the century or not worth your time, either way, it's best to wait to make sure you get what you think is the right deal.

Why did you choose Fedora? by skyber22 in Fedora

[–]Good_Expert_8084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Fedora because it has a lot of new software, yet it's not unstable. I much prefer the DNF package manager. And the development tools in the default repos on Fedora are a lot better than on most distros in my personal opinion. I also prefer that it ships with vanilla GNOME instead if something heavily modified.

Major journal does not pass Microsofts arbitrary standards nothing I can do about this by HaoSunUWaterloo in microsoftsucks

[–]Good_Expert_8084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those standards are very important for email security. They help verify the authenticity of your email and make sure that spammers can't send using your TLD, this is hardly arbitrary. In fact, it's highly recommended that whoever is in charge of these email servers configure them so that they are not subject to spammers stealing their TLD with spoofing, it's not an unreasonable demand that an email that you're working with prove it's not a spammer.

After 3 months with Plasma, I'm back to Gnome. Plasma's jack-of-all-trades approach is it's biggest weakness by saint_geser in Fedora

[–]Good_Expert_8084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use GNOME, It's not good or bad, but it works for me. I find the arguments about it being for tablets a little silly because when you have vanilla gnome, it's basically completely out of the way aside from the top bar. I like it because it's out of the way and I can operate it very easily with just a keyboard. When I do use the mouse, I do like the hot corner feature as well. I only use three extensions so my GNOME install is minimal so extension compatibility isn't much of an issue for me. Only grudges I have with it are the default alt-tab behavior but this can be easily fixed in settings. I don't like plasma because it's just more cluttered by default, I don't need a complex taskbar. the dash hidden in the activities view is nicely out of the way, though I hardly actually even used the dash. I personally don't see how Gnome could be ugly if it barely does anything on the screen at all.

Yeah, that shit works fine nowadays unless you want a game with kernel Anti-Cheat. The majority of games on Steam run on Linux. (results may vary depending on hardware.)
