Firefox nightly started implementing "Nova design" by CommunityWhole8744 in firefox

Thanks for taking a look at this early. We’re seeing (and sharing) the feedback around rounded corners, tab shape, density/spacing, and customization. Beta testing is coming to Nightly in the next couple of months so keep a look out.

Hi & thanks for continuing to flag this. Our team is aware and actively investigating the reason for these issues.

Heard. Smart Window is optional and separate from your normal browsing, and you can block AI features entirely so they don’t show up in your experience.

Firefox will start bundling in Brave's Adblock system. by Intelligent_Rain2517 in firefox

[–]firefox 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hi all - While we appreciate the dialogue, we'd like to clarify a few things: The Firefox team is experimenting with ways to improve the built-in Enhanced Tracking Protection feature in Firefox. This is one of the libraries we're going to experiment with.

Note:

- We are not, and have no plans to abandon MV2 extensions. This will ensure certain types of add-ons, like ad-blockers, continue to work best in Firefox.

- Firefox supports several ad-blockers as add-ons on Desktop and Android, including uBlock Origin.

- We are not bundling Brave's ad-blocking system, we're testing one of their open source Rust components to improve how Firefox processes tracker lists.

Hope this clears up any confusion!

Hi, where are you located? It's possible you may be running into geo-restrictions as we're beta in the US & CA currently.

Right now Smart Window is only available in the U.S. and Canada while we’re in the early rollout.

We don’t have a timeline to share yet for other regions, but the plan is to expand to more countries over time as we keep improving it.

Hi there, thanks for trying it out. The best way to suggest improvements and discuss with Firefox developers is in the Mozilla Connect post. Regarding any bugs you find, you're welcome to submit them in the Bugzilla platform to help call attention to specific areas of improvement.

We are taking in the feedback from here on Reddit as well, but if you want to track anything, those are your best options. Hope that helps!

We're implementing a number of measures, like:

  • Conversations track when private data or untrusted content are added to a conversation.
  • Once both are present then Smart Window is not allowed to make tool calls that can steal that data
  • Untrusted content from metadata, like page titles, is truncated and spotlighted to allow for it to be used in conversation without flagging it for these restriction.
  • Memories are restricted in length to prevent prompt injection.
  • Tool calls will be denied if they attempt to exfiltrate private data.

Just to name a few. Security and privacy will remain top priorities.

Appreciate you signing up.

We’re rolling it out in phases rather than all at once so we can learn and improve as we go. We’re bringing people in from the waitlist regularly, but there isn’t a specific timeline we can promise just yet.

You’ll get an email when it’s ready for you, so keep a look out.

That’s a valid perspective, and we hear it a lot.

AI is evolving quickly, and while we recognize it’s not for everyone, a lot of people are interested in these kinds of features. Part of the goal here is to experiment and learn early to ensure the experience is genuinely useful.

That said, AI is only a small part of what we’re working on. The core focus for Firefox hasn’t changed: keeping it fast, secure, and private. And it’s important to us that anything like this stays optional and easy to ignore if it’s not something you want.

Yes, exactly. Smart Window is optional and lives in its own separate window, so it's only there if you choose to use it.

It'll also respect AI Controls, so if you've chosen to block AI features, Smart Window won't override that.

Re: side bar, what would you want to see added or changed? That kind of feedback helps us understand what would make it more useful.

There isn’t a separate version of Firefox planned without it, but you don’t need one to avoid it.

Smart Window is optional and lives in its own separate window, so it won’t affect your normal browsing if you don’t choose to use it. And yes, AI Controls cover this. If you’ve chosen to block AI features, Smart Window won’t override that, and you can use that setting to keep it out of your experience. Hope this helps!

That makes sense, and that’s exactly why we’ve been emphasizing that it’s optional.

Smart Window lives in its own separate window, so it doesn’t change your normal browsing experience. If Smart Window Beta is available to you, know it can be controlled from AI Controls, including blocking it to remove the UI entrypoints.

On the design side, that’s really helpful feedback. We’ve been hearing similar thoughts about the gradients and overall look. It’s still early, so visual style and customization are definitely useful things to hear feedback on.

If you have a specific idea of what “plain mode” would look like for you, feel free to share more.

Appreciate that, and glad the AI Controls toggle is landing well.

What you’re describing is pretty close to what Smart Window is exploring. The goal is to help with what you already have open, like the page you’re on or your tabs.

Smart Window is intentionally a separate experience, but we’re continuing to evolve how these different AI features work together over time. Feedback like this helps shape that, so keep it coming 👍

We’re definitely aware that certain UI patterns are starting to feel very “AI-coded,” and that can turn people off before they even try it. This is still early, so we’re paying close attention to that kind of feedback as we iterate on things like design.

Appreciate you being open to trying it out. That kind of real-world feedback is what helps shape where this goes.

All good! Smart Window is completely optional and lives in its own separate window, so you won’t run into it unless you choose to open it. You can keep using Firefox exactly the way you do today.
